At what age are Yorkies considered full grown? Quote:
I was wondering if anyone answered this question? I can't seem to find the answer and am wondering how big my little Tiffany will be. She is now about 5 months old and weighs 2 lbs 2 oz. She has gained almost a pound in the 2 months I have had her. I also am wondering when Yourkie's hair gets really long., and at what age you can tell what the final coloring will be? I can see a little silver coming in on the top of her head, but for the most part, she still appears tan and black. This is my first time owning a Yorkie and so we are learning so much and loving her every minute! |
But his parents were only 6 and 7 pounds!!!! It's driving me nuts that I can't weigh him on our home scale! The home adult scale we have is crappy anyway - but when I weighed myself and then weighed myself WITH Sully in my arms it said 10lbs heavier?!?!! This cant' be true. Sully's mom was 7lbs and his dad was 6lbs. Sully gets plenty of exercise and we only feed him his fair share of premium food - no table scraps, etc. I am convinced he's only like 8lbs but, darnit, we were hoping he'd turn out to be 6.5 like his parents. What happened?? |

Chewy was 10lbs when we got him at roughly 5 months, now at around 8 months he's 15.6 lbs. He's still growing! |
Wow! Chewy is quite a large Yorkie! My little Tiffany weighs 2 lbs 3 oz and she is almost 6 months old now. I have been wondering if she will stay so small or if she will keep growing. She does have a lot of attitude for such a small baby! We LOVE her! |
My Sophie is 5 1\2 months old and she weighs a little over 6 lbs. I was told she would weigh between 3 to 5 lbs. She is a little on the chubby side though. We have been very consistent with her feedings and the vet says she is very healthy. I have had people ask me if she is full stock and I'm sure she is. I don't see what the big deal is anyway. Once you get them you love them no matter how big or how little they are. :aimeeyork Sophie'smom |
Chico just hit his 10 week mark and is about 2.3 pounds. His mom is 4 1/2 and dad somewhere in the 3 pounder range. The lady that sold him to me said he would be around there size. I don't know now since reading other weights on pups and what they are estimated to be. Does anyone know if they grow till they are age 1 or sooner? Still my little boundle of joy though! :D |
Don't really know Mocha is 16 weeks old and weighed in at 3.8 lbs on Monday at the vet.. The breeder estimated she will be 7 lbs.. I am not sure how to judge how big the puppy will be fully grown.. My grandparents have a yorkie who was the same size as Mocha at that age and now at 1.5 years old she's 11 lbs and they were told she'd be 7.. I hope Mocha stays around 6 or 7 but who knows |
Zoey is 5 ½ months and she was a little under 6lbs. I can't believe how the size and weight of the yorkies on this forum ranges from itty bitty to a larger yorkie... I didn't know a lot about yorkies when I got Zoey in December I just wanted a yorkie because they are hyperallergenic...but I have learned so much, It's hard to believe that just in the few months my Zoey has grown and changed so much... she’s amazing. adjusting to dsappointment :) My nikko was 2lbs. 4 oz. at 12 weeks. the vet stated he should be 4 1/2 to 5 pounds full grown. He is about 5 1/2 months now and he is 4lbs 6oz, he is changing colors, becoming more steel blue and silvery on his back and nape, and prominent distinction fromm areas that are tan. .the vet says now he should be about 7 lbs. So much for his reliability, I could have made similar predictions and this is my first yorkie. His mother and father are 51/2 and 6 pounds respectively. I know one of his older sisters and she's 5lbs- 2 yrs old, his male sibling from this liter is 2lbs. I think he is still growing and will probably be about 6 1/2 pounds or more. I don't think there is an exact science to weight, it all depends on what you feed them, including treats. Nikko sometimes sneaks food from Qball, which is my Beagle, but he gets plenty of exercise. I must admit, I love him but was hoping he would remain under 5lbs, but I bet my hubby was hoping I remained at 130lbs also. , LOL |
Pebbles should wiegh up to 7 pounds full grown! |
scrappy is 17 months old now and he"s 7 pounds 2 ounces now. :) |
coco is now 5 months and 4lbs 8oz. his weight gain is starting to slow just as his vet said it would. he told me that at 5-6 months his growth will start to slow down and i won't really notice the little growth he still has remaining. his vet is a really good one he is in carmel, ca. and everything in carmel is high end. so i got really lucky with him! everything he told me would happen has been very accurate. so i beilieve everything he says. |
I was hoping someone who had an older Yorkie with similar weight gain history would graciously give me insight into how their Yorkie progressed with weight. It doesn't matter to me whether or not they are from a hi end neighborhood. Hi caliber people don't have a need to inform you where they come from, their value is automatically noticed in their presentation. Many people state their Yorkies grow until age 1 and beyond. Some say they stopped at 6 months. I just wanted a friendly indication of growth progress. |
Ralphie was 2.5 lbs at 12 weeks. At 18 weeks he is now 2.13 lbs. I bought a nice little food scale that goes to five lbs( from Bed Bath and Beyond), and put a piece of stiff card board on it. The scale adjustes to zero as needed. There are other scales that can take over if I need to get one-- but i believe his full grown weight will be about 5 lbs. He is adding about an ounce a week. He is feeing freely in Wysong Anergen and now Missing Link. Also a little bit of pedigree chicken & rice ground. |
Thank you for your reply, azkaty. Ralphie sounds like a gem. It seems like he's going to remain 5 or under. He's growing but slowly, Nikko's weight gain seemed rapid. But thanks for your input |

I've always heard that they stop grown at 8 months. |
Zsa Zsa is 13 years old and weight 3 pounds . Her breeder always told me she will weight 5 pounds or more but she never grow to this . Jade is 1 year old , 4 1/2 pounds . |
My yorkie-poo Kelsey currently weighs almost 5 pounds. Her vet check up for her last set of puppy shots is this comming week so we'll see how much she weighs in..she seems small though. She is 6 months old. I have no clue how big she'll get..we'll see! :p |
Thanks for the quote. I guess we're all curious Yorkie lovers. I have been fascinated With Niko since he came into my life. My hubby gets a little jealous but states he is so happy to see me excited about something. I often feel as if I am raising a baby again. I do not plan to take him to the vet again this year unless he is ill or I decide to neuter him. He's received all of his shots. The vet says I should consider neutering at 6 months. Any advice? is this dangerous? Does it cause weight gain? I may want to mate him because i see myself wanting another baby in the future. Do you have to be a professional breeder to mate? I know breeders are against this but my neighbor has a 5lb girl. She says if they mate I would be entitled to have one and first pic. |
No , neutering a dog is not dangerous . Gioia my little 3 pounds have been spayed and the day after she was the same little " terror " as was before . |

Full grown is considered AROUND 1 year. But some just don't stop growing. It's hard to say when weight will "top out". My female did at 8 months at 4 pounds 3 ounces. It depends on the dog really. My friends yorkie grew until age 3 but still topped out at only 5 pounds. Just because their still gaining doesn't always mean their jumbo shrimp but they all are lovable, jumbo shrimp and all! |
He will probably be 4-6 pounds when he's finished growing. |
Thank you for all the positive responses. As a new member and a new mom it is nice to know that there is a forum where you can talk about your new baby and people can understand the anxiety, defensiveness and joy that consumes you. Many people forget their initial feelings and become impatient with others. Again, I am so glad to know that there are s :) o many people who maintain their concern for not only their yorkies but other newbies too. |
okay let me clarify this. there was nothing for you to be "defensive" about i'm kinda confused. iv'e been on this site for quite sometime and by allmeans i am concerned with everyones yorkie as they are with mine when i have concerns. i welcome newbies! it's just that when you make such remarks to someone who did not mean anything by thier comment of course thier going to get upset. especially with what you said. so how you want to take that i don't know. i love yorkie talk and yes there are alot of kind people here and i feel i'm one of them. i do not intentionally offend anyone here at all. we all love our babies very much. |

I'm sorry that I insulted you would have been appropriate. Sometimes it does not matter what your intentions are it is how others perceive it. If someone is insulted by what you say, then you should accept that. Attacking me to make me understand your point, is again insulting. In essence, I'm sorry that you can't accept that I am insulted by you, but I am. Continuosly sending me clarification emails won't change that. Your second response reiterated my feelings. If you don't like my comments, then don't respond, but challenging my feelings is ridiculous, because they are my feelings and I am entitled to them. We do seemingly have one thing in common, we love yorkies, so please allow us to benefit from people we both are receptive to. Thank you. |
no nobody responded to me in such manner because there was no reason too. wich is my point with you. that is why i'mm upset. you make it sound like i intentionally insulted you. i can take someone being insulted beilieve me. but to me there was no reason to make such remarks that you did. yes you are entitled to your feelings, and so ami i and that's why i feel that your are out of line when you come back with such comments when you didn't even bother addressing me with what i meant first. usually when someone is put off by a comment and the person who wrote the comments explains what they meant the other person understands, you don't seem to understand why i don't know. i have never met a person like you on this site that doesn't seem to grasp the concept of explanation. if this was reversed and you told me that you didn't mean anything by your comment then i would say ok i understand but that's just me. i really hope that you view this site with an open mind, because this won't be the last time you feel "insulted" and i really hope that you handle it better. i will continue to give advice and comments on this site, this is the first time iv'e had to deal with a person like this here, and it's really sad. :( i love yorkie talk ii enjoy everyone yes everyone here and i know alot of others enjoy me too. so good luck and enjoy yorkie talk because it is a very good place to be. |
