Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I hate the groomer poll Grooming was new to me when I got Eddie. I always presumed it was like a haircut. Take the dog in, get him clipped, and take him home a half-hour later. Ha. Petco makes us make a specific appointment, then drop him off, then wait until they get around to grooming him. This is anywhere from 3-5 hours. Last time, I had to be at work, so I showed up after 3 hours. THEY HADN'T EVEN STARTED! When we complained, they had him done in a half hour. I actually like the groomer herself, but why can't they do it in a more timely manner, especially when you have an appointment?

| If Toto isn't 0-1 I don't leave her. I wait while she is groomed and she is never, ever allowed to be in one of those wire crates!!

| After reading all the grooming horror stories on here, I decided to do Twinkie's grooming myself - so she has never been. She is over 8 months now and barely 2.5 lbs so I don't think I could EVER leave her in the hands of stangers for any length of time - she's waaaay too little and besides I think she would have herself a little heart attack with being put in a cage waiting, waiting, waiting...

| I groom Stewie myself! I shaved his belly over the summer so he didn't smell like pee, I clip his nails, bathe him, clean his ears and tear stains, clip the hair around his paw pads and ears. He isn't a joy to groom, but I can't ever keep appointments, so I don't even try

| Well, actually it depends on how early I get them to my groomer. It's first come, first serve(no exceptions, and voted best groomer here in my home town!!!!!). If I get them there when they open 2-3 hours, if not 4-6 and I generally spend about 45 per pet. |

| This is why I groom my girls myself. I had to. My little Sierra would make herself sick when I used to bring her to the groomers. One time she had diarrhea for three days. Another time she got a bladder infection. I used to leave them for hours, poor babies. What was I thinking? Selfish, I guess. I just wanted to do some shopping while they were at the groomers, so I thought they were in good hands. Hah! Some good hands. In cages, all strange dogs around them, and most of the time it's pretty warm in there because of baths. And mine hate to be too warm. So, little by little, experiment by experiment, I started doing all of it! Summer, I shave them because we have a lot of foxtails here. Winter, I let them grow out, but keep their faces, ears, feet and privates trimmed/shaved. The hardest thing for me is the nails. But I do it, just snipping a little off after their weekly baths, that way they are a little softer and easier to cut. And I never cut a lot at one time, so I don't make a mistake and cut the quick. So, people, if I can do it, you can to. If it's better for our babies, I'll do it! |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I suppose we should just learn to groom him ourselves like some of you do. The one time we did it, we weren't happy with the results, but he was a pup then and didn't trust us as much as he does now. Of course, he'll probably come out looking like a chihuahua.

| Groomer Me I do it myself. When I had my first Yorkie the only time I would have a flea on her is if I took her to a groomer so then and there I decided I had better learn. It takes forever and I gain alot of appreciation for those that do it all day....my arms just about break off. A good book on grooming Yorkies in a long coat is Anne Fisher's Yorkies Today Eddie shouldn't be too hard except for the clippers. Isn't there someone that maybe does it in their home with a definite appt. I suppose you've looked.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | We really haven't looked that much for groomer options. That's a good idea to find someone who works out of their home.

| I groom outta my home alot of groomer that you like in shop would love to groom your babie at home just dont ask them infront of the boss groomers tend to be rushed with your babies in large shops and told to take shortcuts most of us love to groom i let my people watch as long as they understand things like bearding you babies is not a pain and pulling ear hair is just that pulling hair no groomer wants a shakie mom hovering over head but if you can sit and watch most will welcome you a second time |

| I used to dread the grooming experience as much as Teddy. I hated bringing him in early and having him sit there so long and never knowing when he would be done. I found the solution to our problem in hiring a mobile groomer to come to us. Talk about convenient! She pulls up and in a half hour he is as shiny as a new nickel. It's so much less intimidating for both of us and I would never use a regular shop groomer again.
