| Life vest: yes or no I've been researching life vest for dogs since I live on a lake and don't have one yet. There are plenty out there to buy, but which ones are comfortable? Please let me know if you're using a vest on your yorkie, what brand you like best and why you like it (features, size, fit, comfort, easy on/off, etc..) Since I most likely will have to order online, it would be very helpful if you'd let me know what size you bought and how big/small your yorkie is. Thanks for all your help!

| Yes! When we take Ginger lake swimming, we always have a life jacket on her, despite her being a strong little swimmer. My gosh, it only takes a second for something to go wrong and the life jacket offers that extra measure of security. Also, it makes her visible to others (boaters, etc) AND has a handle so that if I need to I can quickly pick her up out of the water. Bernie doesn't really like to swim, but we put a life jacket on him for the same reasons. I'll have to see if I can find out the brand/size we use and get back to you.

| Ours are from Outward Hound We have SMALL. I'm not sure if they make one small enough for a standard-sized yorkie.

YT 500 Club Member | Meg has a Paws Aboard life jacket in XXS. She's 4 lbs. It adjusts to fit with velcro and two buckles under the belly and a velcro/buckle in front of the neck. We haven't had opportunity to use it yet - the water is still too cold, but I'm sure it will come in handy this summer. Pink Polka Dot Doggie Life Jacket by Paws Aboard Inc at SouthernAgriculture.com

| We have jackets for all 4 of them. Jack is the only one that does not swim well. Maggie fell off the boat at the slip several years ago. DH was reaching for her to hook her leash on to go potty when she tried to jump from the boat to the dock. He yelled at me to come up and help. By the time I got to the rail I could see a nose and 2 stroking paws coming up through the water under the dock. She paddled over and we brought her back in the boat. (He put the boat up for sale the next week) We only go to the beach on calm days. Usually the only one brave enough to follow me into the water is Rocky. If we go to the neighbor's yard (pool) they have their jackets on.

| Abby wears a FIDO FLOAT,its yellow like ours, zips along the back, has two holes for the front legs and carrying straps on top. She weighs 7 pounds,(delicate build, not heavy) now and the FIDO FLOAT is in the Tiny size. She can wear her harness under it so we can attach a cord in case the kayak flips. ( Like if I were to stand up in the boat and act crazy if a snake fell in with us ) In the heat, it might be a bit uncomfortable, just as they are for humans. However, it is safer to have the floatation device than not. There are snapping turtles in the lakes and rivers. They get gi-gant-u-us. Don't even want them to get a bit of my little delisious baby! |

| It would help if you can find ones that have a list as to the measurments so you can better judge the size. Like, how long is your dog,{neck to base of tail} and the girth,[widest part around their rib cage] and then possibly weight. Then how easy is it to get on and off and how sturdy is it. Can you pick your dog up with it and it not hurt your dog? Will the straps tear,(ours have mesh) The device does not have to go all the way to the tail. But it helps to know about how much of the dogs back will be used to make sure it is big enough. |

YT Addict | Emmett has an outward hound life jacket. I believe it is a small. I got it at petsmart, I'd take your baby there and try them on. Emmett doesnt seem to dislike it, and it has a cute little handle so that I can grab him quickly if something were to happen. Here he is in it.

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Yes, Yes a thousand times yes!! We live near Lake Erie and Izzy has a vest. I love it because it has a handle on it..lol. I also use that when we visit peeps with pools, spas, etc. Makes it easier for me to grab her in an instant if I have to!
