This camera IS looking at me funny.....I snapped a couple of shots, but I don't think the camera was happy with them. Maybe I should feed it first? Do cameras get hungry? I want this camera to like me, so I'm trying to not get too tough with it just yet. Still....any ideas for gifts? This thing is SMART! I need something really special for this camera...I don't think it's too impressed with me so far.

On a happier note, before the sneeze I did figure out how to turn it on and snapped a few random shots which will be deleted as soon as I figure out how to do it. It was cold, rainy and dreary out this weekend. All the kids & I felt like doing was nap. This is one impressive camera!!! I really can't wait until I'm feeling better, and until the first DSLR class tomorrow. I've been reading the manual a little but I'm anxious to actually start using it.

Don't worry too much about manual settings, shutter priority or aperature priority settings just yet. You want to have some success on auto to motivate you to learn more about the camera. And whatever you do, don't call it by the wrong name! Good luck.

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | i am opposite of Mike...hehe...i would say the best way to learn is to jump right into FULL MANUAL mode...and set your settings and start from there because i spent the last how long trying to figure out each mode but really didn't learn much from the preset modes but was given the advice of going straight into full manual mode...and take pictures and see how each setting affects the outcome and adjust to get the image the way you want....also when taking pictures take in RAW and jpg so with the RAW you can do some post processing to enhance the photo...hehe.... here is a picture i took of downtown Chicago when i was there with just a regular P&S Canon and did an HDR effect on it...i like the way it turned out...hehe

| That Digitutor site is amazing. It's really helped me ease into being more comfortable with the camera. I actually had a blast playing around with it last night. Tonight is my first class on DSLR cameras. The real Photography class (learning about ISO, aperatures, etc.) starts in a few weeks. Until then anyway, I'm going to follow Mike's suggestion to just get comfortable using the auto mode since I really don't understand the manual settings yet. Thanks Ann - I'm feeling much better now. And the camera & I are making friends....we'll be just fine. Mike, I haven't named the camera yet. I'm thinking about staying with something generic like Honey or Sweetie just so I don't slip up.

| I just got in from my first camera class. It was awesome!! The instructor is terrific, and she kept everyone involved and interested. After reading and reading the last several months so much finally seemed to click tonight. I can't wait to go back on Thursday!! I feel so much more comfortable with this camera. I highly recommend these classes to anyone who's local community ed's offer them.
