OK I just looked up the meaning of EF and it is Electro Focus, so an EF lense must have the motor in the lense?

Is that right?

Holy crap...that info was not easy to find, LOL ! I don't have a Canon, so I really wanted to be sure I found the *right* info for ya, but FOUND it ! Look for "USM" on the lens:

When I bought my Rebel xti I also purchased 3 books because I knew nothing about cameras other than the point and shoot kind. The books helped me a bunch. esp with the ISO and aperture
