| Shwooooo I just read this ENTIRE thread....yes, this is what I do on Saturday nights... soo ?? haha And yes, this thread has been dead for 3 months, but who said I couldn't revive it You all are soooo informative... I did not have THE FIRST clue about what kind of camera I wanted (only that I wanted to take a big step up from my point & shoot)...and was leaning toward Nikon...don't even know why ? Anyway, now my goal by Christmas is to have a Nikon D90, a prime lens, a bounce flash, and a good zoom lens.............in that order HOLY COW! Yeah, I am the type when I make up my mind, I MAKE UP MY MIND.... Anyway, just wanted to thank you all for sharing such fabulous info & pictures

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh how fun ! This is such a great thread, I agree. We all learned so much discussing things back and forth...especially the techy stuff, which can be hard to discuss. I have done that before too - read a 40 page thread all at once - you keep telling yourself "well, just a couple more pages" - but you can't stop !

| I know! On page 4, I was like, okay...I'll read to page 5 and pick it up later. On page 5, I was like, I'll read to page 10, and quit. REALLY. On page 10, it was the good ole' gem "just a couple more pages" haha and here we are on, what, page 37 ??? You know what that means...you ladies were that entertaining

| Haha ok so I TOO just read this entire 37 page thread and I THINK I know what camera I want but the person posting about it was about 2 years ago. Sooo my question is, is the Canon Rebel XTi still a great camera to go with or has it upgraded to something better since then? I'm also thinking about the Nikon D5000 as well? I definitely want the 50 mm zoom lens for the blurred background effect as not only am I photographing my pup, I also need it to photograph food for my blog I have SOO much anxiety on choosing a camera as it's such an investment and I don't want to spend more on a camera that isn't as great as something else I could spend my money on (if that makes sense) Any thoughts would be great! I'm still trying to do all the research on how to take the "perfect" picture, but as this thread shows, it takes A LOT of practice, but this has been so helpful!! I'm looking forward to my new obsession

| My other question is, for instance the Nikon D5000 camera says it comes with a 18-55mm lens, does that mean that the 50 mm lens (for the blurred background effect) that was referred to in early posts is just that? Or is that a totally different type of lens that I need to purchase separately? I'm so confused ahhh!

| Great Photography I only read the first couple pages so I don't know if you talked about Micro/Macro....it is such fun. Difference between macro micro and close up photography I wanted a new camera that I could keep in my purse while I am out since that is when I find the greatest shot of all. Anyway, I decided on a Panasonic-Lumix DMC and I am really pleased with it's Macro lens and the software in this little camera is remarkable. That said, nothing can beat the Canon or Nikon and I would consider them equal in quality if you buy each with the same capabilities. I guess to post here you must go the Photobucket or where ever one stores their picture and use one of the links, probably 'direct' I would think. I'll have to see if they allow a shot like that, they may show it small and then click on it to get it somewhat larger, never full screen though I would bet.

Using Nikon D5000, how do you blur the background? And secondly, how do you blur the foreground? - Yahoo! Answers

| You are so right, just skip the manual in most cases, just go to youtube or the website.

| You too Mickey, yours are lovely I couldn't see so many of them, I'm sure they were all wonderful. I will have to remind myself to look at the date of the thread I am reading and I now see this started in 2009 and pretty much ended in 2011. No wonder so many of the pictures were not there any longer.
