| K, well I'm definitely looking into it. I was just checking on eBay for some Nikon D60's. So does the Nikond60 only have 3x optical zoom? Or does it depend on the kind of lens you have?

I wanted to mention (since I used to have the D40 and now have the D90) - the D60 may be somewhat limited in lens options (similar to the D40). I can check into this tomorrow for you if you don't understand the following: like the D40, the D60 may require lenses that have their OWN focus motors - IF you are hoping to use Auto Focus, that is. When I was looking at the D60, I think this was the case - similar to the D40. Do you know what I'm saying by that? Or, do you want me to check for you tomorrow?

Rather than starting a new thread (or maybe I should?) can anyone tell me what they think of this? Amazon.com: Used and New: Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black) I'm a total newbie to dslr's but I love my Canon and love all the Canons I've ever used so I think I want to stick with them. I know the Rebel is known to be great for beginners as well. I'm really looking to save as much as possible. Is Amazon a safe place to purchase, do you think? It says it's a EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens. I have NO idea what that is so if someone could inform me if that's good/bad, that'd be great, LOL.

The Canon Rebel is a nice camera. I love buying from Amazon and that's where I got my D90 - but I always buy FROM Amazon itself for the cameras (not the other vendors). Amazon is so unbelievably wonderful in their returns - so you can use a camera from Amazon for 30 days and still return it. I try to get all my lenses from Amazon (not the vendors) as well. As for the lens - that is considered a "kit lens" - a pretty basic lens that comes w/ many cameras. Depending on what you want to do w/ a camera, some will say do NOT buy the kit, buy the camera body only - and then get lenses you really want. The 18-55 has a bit of zoom and is a middle of the road lens, nothing wrong w/ that. Now, if you're really into controlling the aperture so you can get fuzzy backgrounds ("bokeh"), or focus in on one small area - then you want a "prime" lens - this is a "fixed" lens (no zoom), and you can control the aperture best using a prime lens. I LOVE primes. A super prime for you w/ this camera is the Nikon 50mm 1.8 (for canon camera) - it's only around $100 - and it's fabuLOUS. I have it too, it's a very well known and well loved lens bc you can do incredible things w/ it and it's very cheap for a lens (many average lenses run around $400, but you can spend thousands on one lens too). Buying lenses realllly depends on what you want to do. I have an 18-105mm (fair amount of zoom/flex there), the 50mm mentioned above, a 60mm 1.4 Macro lens, and a 30mm 1.4 that I had to get for the D40 bc I wanted a prime that would auto focus on the D40. Okay, are you totally overwhelmed now?

I'm think I'm sold on the Canon Rebel. I just really love Canon. I went to Best Buy today just to play with it and I loved it. It's on sale at Best Buy right now for $549 but I MAY just order from eBay or Amazon. I'm all for saving money so I can afford to buy another lenses I love having a Zoom. Canon EOS Rebel XS 10.1 Megapixel - eBay (item 260474433016 end time Sep-11-09 17:28:55 PDT) This is the one I'm looking at.

| Alright so a new one from Amazon (CAnon rebel xs) is $521 which is better than Best Buy's sale price. I think I'll go with getting a new one from Amazon and also the 30 day return thing is great. That way if for SOME unknown reason I don't like it... I can get my money back. That's good to know.

| Bumping up this thread for my camera experts! Yes, I'm STILL weighing out my options. Hey - I'm picky about how I spend my money. Can anyone help me out with this decision? **NEW** Canon EOS Rebel XS 10.1 Megapixel - eBay (item 220481604336 end time Sep-19-09 06:06:04 PDT) I'm looking at this eBay auction. It's the Canon EOS Rebel XS listed for $449, Buy It Now option. Seller has got 100% positive feedback, I read through most of it. Refunds are given through exchange, he states. I'm a little worried to do that, I don't know because I know I'm going to love the camera most likely, but I don't like the idea of not being able to get my money back! LOL. This one is available for $199 to Buy It Now. Canon EOS Rebel XS 35mm SLR Camera w/ 2 Lenses Bag Pkg! - eBay (item 300348114025 end time Oct-15-09 07:44:22 PDT) She does, however, state that no returns accepted. She's got good feedback though. I'm just curious as to why she would sell an XS for $200. Also, this one comes with Sigma 100-300mm 1:4-5.6 Zoom Lens and Canon 35-80mm 1:4-5.6 Zoom Lens. Are these good? Better or worse than the kit lens? Basically... I need help deciding!?
