| This is one of my faves! As you know rice in Hawaii is a staple. It's like how the mainland loves their potatoes. ![]() Gandule Rice Recipe - Allrecipes.com Gandule rice can be made many ways. My Puerto Rican friend and neighbor makes THE BEST rice!

| LOL measuring up to the finger line is the way we are taught. I don't know any other way. But we use medium grain rice here. Also I love Jasmine rice it smells and tastes so devine!rofl ![]() Quote:
We even wash our hair with the Awapuhi (pronounced A-VA-POO-HE) Hawaiian ginger. It smells so good!

| The skin on young ginger is much thinner. And the ginger flavor I would say is not as strong but still strong enough. Plus if you ever grated ginger you would know the difference. Older ginger is more dry also and harder to grate. Here are the comparisons on looks. Young vs. old. lol

| Younger ginger is more yellow, and older is more brown. Funny this is over here, most at the markets we have are old.

| I totally forgot to update this before. When I went to Miami to visit Shinja and Priscilla and meet Dinolover, Shinja had arranges Shri Lankan cooking lessons for us Anyway, Sharone had many new types of rice to introduce us to! One being BLACK RICE (no, not wild rice, it was just black rice). She also had red rice and Florida rice ~ who knew???!!!
