LOL measuring up to the finger line is the way we are taught. I don't know any other way.

But we use medium grain rice here. Also I love Jasmine rice it smells and tastes so devine!

Is fresh ginger that hard to find there? I love the young ginger better than the old. Softer and not as fibery. Some people even grow it in their back yard.

We even wash our hair with the Awapuhi (pronounced A-VA-POO-HE) Hawaiian ginger. It smells so good!
