I love the bbq I had when I was in Texas. It was at Texas Lil's Dude Ranch or something like that. It was awesome!

Wow! How long did it take for your DH to reel that in? Fish are so strong! I've never had marlin before. What's it like?

I don't like it cooked. Most times the bigger the marlin it is the tougher it is. Smoked is best or certain cuts of the fish is great in poke. My hubby made poke with white sweet onions, green onions, inamona(kukui nut), sesame oil, mirin, and soy sauce. I love limu(seaweed) but we didn't have any on hand. The taste is mild. The meat is on the white side. I don't know how long this one took for him to real in...I wasn't paying attention. roflmao I know...bad wife...he is an avid fisherman so the stories all sound the same to me. LOL

one of my aunties in their slightly younger days caught a marlin and has it replicated on her wall in her basement. pretty amazing story.

the other older one in her 50's went shark fishing and caught a 9ft long shark over 700 lbs and to hear her tell the story of that battle is the BEST story i've ever been told. she recalls the bruises and the blood from fighting that shark for hours. she recalls tell her husband Jr about catching it and he was calling bingo that night and she says "i caught a shark" and he says, "well J.C. Melba (sorry hate using Lord's name in vain but that's what he said)" and she says it was 9 ft long and he says it again with MORE shock and surprise and then she tells him it's weight and he says it again all freaked out in shock!! you just have to meet this lady. she looks like Lucille Ball and kinda has the humor to boot.

She has the whole replica of a Marlin in the basement??? LOL That is huge!

Unfortunately i'm a "land lubber" as my kids call it. I can't handle the motion of the ocean. My son gets sick but he grins and bears it. My 8yr. old dd LOVES it! She can't get enough of being in the wild blue yonder.

yep she has the blue marlin down there replicated across this entire huge wall. and the other auntie has a replica shark in her living room 9ft long beast hanging there when you walk in the door. lol they are nuts but i LOVE them. someone really should write their stories in a book. mite have to someday.

lol yeah...usually the only things that are real on the replicas are the beak (marlin) and tail. Some fish that are mounted have the skin.

some are. my dad does them with the real skin tanned and then placed over a foam form of the body. he uses glass eyes and then air brushes the scales to perfection. but the HUGE fish it's easier to replicate in full form and pain the replica than to stretch the skin back on. also some fish have very thin oily skins that don't tan well or stretch well so you just use a replica.

any other taxidermy ??s just ask away. my dad is a full time federally and state licensed taxidermist. i know the buiz

sounds interesting. not sure about worth of them really. they are kinda personalized in value. kinda the story behind the hunt and kill that makes them special. they do however cost about 350-400 to mount these days. not sure about antiques and depends on who mounted it. mite be that they were well known or something. worth a shot. but prob anymore 50-100 for a nice good shape mount. bad shape prob not worth anything. also depends on the antlers. now that i can tell ya about. drop tines, WORTH BIG, large spread or point count WORTH BIG,

the condition is really good. I'll have to ask bf how much we paid, I don't remember.... he said he doesn't really remember, maybe $125-150. I'll try to remember to get pics.
