YT 2000 Club Member | Vegetarians? Just wanted to know how many YT'ers are vegetarians. If so, how long have you been practicing this lifestyle? I have recently adopted a vegetarian diet free of simple sugars and processed foods due to health concerns. Therefore I am interested in any info others can share. My cholesterol. Was 300, it is down to 240 now. I am aware that it needs to be less than 200... we shall see at my next appointment. Thanks for any input/knowledge in advance.

| I have been a veggi for 13 years, for a while I ate some raw fish and oysters so I was a pescatarian. Right now I have been trying to go vegan as of the first of the year, but I am struggling with dairy. There is a wealth of knowledge out there for clean eaters and the health benefits are simply amazing. Good for you for stepping up to do this! Keep it up and let us know if you need any advice!

My furkids Donating Member | people say I am vegetarian but i'm not...I do eat poultry and fish...I have been a non-red meat, pork eater for 20 yrs. I would like to eliminate poultry from my diet but would have to do lots of research on how to get my protein. Last time I had blood work done my protein levels were a little low...

| Yes. We need a minimum of .8g of protein per kg per day. Divide your weight in pounds by 2.2 and multiply by .8. It's not only about getting enough protein, but it's also about getting a good mixture of amino acids. Dairy, nuts, grains, eggs, soy, and legumes are all good sources. Quinoa is a grain that has a nice amino acid profile.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Kashi GoLean cereal has a surprising amount of protein, and it's really yummy. Like Crystal said, Quorn is awesome!

| I have been a vegetarian for the last ten years. I too would like to go vegan but I am not ready to give up dairy. As for protein, if you are still doing dairy Greek yogurt is an excellent source.

YT 2000 Club Member | I did find some good recipes for quinoa bread (thanks again) that I want to try. I tried the Greek yogurt, not a big fan, but am always open to any advice. I need to do this. I have pretty much given up drinking milk now, but cheese I think will be a difficult one for me. I will look up the morning star products. I really thought i would be having a melt down without candy, pies, cookies, etc., but so far doing ok. Thank you all for your input, I greatly appreciate it.

| You can mix ranch powder in Greek yogurt to make vegetable dip. Trader Joes Greek yogurt is one of the highest protein foods I have come across (22g/cup).

| If you're having trouble giving up cheese, you might try "The Uncheese Cookbook" Amazon.com: The Uncheese Cookbook: Creating... It's great. |

YT 2000 Club Member | Hey thanks Crystal, that sounds like a winner. I will definitely try that out. RtsMichele I will look into that book because I really do love cheese and like I said have had a difficult time giving it up, thanks! You all are going to make this easier for me. I have a lot of weight I could benifit from losing, but right now honing in on my cholesterol, heart rate and blood pressure. Thanks again for every ones input.
