| Pet Stores?? Are pet stores that sell kittens as bad as selling puppies?? I asked where they get all of them and they say most of them come from people with an outdoor female that gets unexpectedly pregnant. And some are stays that people find but cant care for. So my question is, is buying products from this store just as bad as buying from one that sells puppies??

| I think it depends.... Petsmart near my home has "adoptions" in their store from our area's cat rescue agency.... I think simply buying a cat from a pet store wouldnt be any different... d

| In my personal opinion, I am not sure cats come from puppymills. I haven't seen any research on it so far, but am about to google to find out more. However, I would never buy a kitten from a petstore because there are SO many cats that need homes in shelters, to me it makes no sense. Any store that sells dogs or cats I just avoid. Better safe than sorry . |

| I agree. I'd go to the shelters first. There's plenty of cats and kittens for adoption.

| If they have the kittens for adoption like petsmart and stuff then I would say it's okay. BUT if the store buys kittens from breeders or people who accidentally had litters to sell in the store, then I would stay to stay away from them...It's best to buy your products elsewhere...

| I have never heard of a kittenmill. So I am guessing that as long as they don't sell puppies, they are OK to buy from. |

| There are bird mills, cat mills, puppymills, etc... so do be careful.

| There are kitten mills too - just not so common as puppy mills. These kitten mills normally produce purebred cats though. I know the local feed store I go to sometimes has kittens for sale but they are only like $10 which includes their vaccinations. I think they're basically just trying to adopt out kittens that someone needed homes for. On the other hand, there used to be a petstore here that sold animals and had kittens for sale once for over $100 that were like 1/2 main coon and 1/2 something else - now that I think is wrong. There is a difference between adopting out kittens for an adoption fee and selling kittens to make a profit. So with the store you're going to - it really just depends on the situation.
