There are kitten mills too - just not so common as puppy mills. These kitten mills normally produce purebred cats though. I know the local feed store I go to sometimes has kittens for sale but they are only like $10 which includes their vaccinations. I think they're basically just trying to adopt out kittens that someone needed homes for. On the other hand, there used to be a petstore here that sold animals and had kittens for sale once for over $100 that were like 1/2 main coon and 1/2 something else - now that I think is wrong. There is a difference between adopting out kittens for an adoption fee and selling kittens to make a profit. So with the store you're going to - it really just depends on the situation.

Educate yourself and buy from reputable breeders or rescue.
