| Anyone here have a mini poodle? Anyone here have a mini poodle? I went to pick up some stuff at a pottery store today and there was one there. I have been thinking about it ever since. She was so soft and cute.. most poodles I have seen I haven't liked.. but this one was so pretty and curly.. she looked just like a puppy!

| I have 3 poodles One is miniature 9 yr old about 16 lbs One is toy 5 yr old about 8 lbs One is tiny toy(sometimes referred to as a teacup) 6 yrs old and 3 lbs I believe the 3 pounder is the one you are referring to? The above post was right, if very curly, probably not clipped. My little guy never got an adult coat, but kept a puppy coat so not really curly even when not clipped. I have seen them curly though and they are adorable. I had a white 3 pounder that died at 18 months of a brain aneurism. It is not uncommon for these tiny ones to have many health problems, they can run up thousands in vet bills. Bosley's(my little black tiny toy) little legs are the size of my index fingers. Very fragile, and not for anyone with children, I put him in a regular baby playpen when children are here. Also too fragile to go out in severe winter weather, he either uses a litter box or pee pad. Also has bad patellas in back legs so if he gets to weigh too much will have to have surgery at $2500.00 per leg. So really walks of any length are out of the question, I usually wind up carrying him after 1/2 a block. This is a dog that I would not recommend getting, sorry if that offends anyone, I love him dearly and would take no amount of money for him but will never get another one as it is heartbreaking to lose them, I spent thousands trying to save my Liebchen (little white tiny toy) and lost him anyway and had spent many days on the floor with him as he tried to recuperate from grandmal seizures. I know these little ones are cute and so endearing and small enough to take anywhere, but please think twice. I made sure when I got my Yorkie that I would not get a little one, I was just too leary and really 5-7 lbs isn't all that large. Hope this helps.

| This ones coat was very short. I liked it that way. I'd say he was 4 or 5 lbs.. I think that's a good size. I'd love to get one in the future.

| My mom has poodles(2 now, 4 at the most at one time). They are the yappiest dogs! It has sworn everyone off of poodles in the family(of course except for her). My husband had to help her fix a few things and came home that day and told me we will NEVER own one. I think everyone has a favorite breed of dog and you just can't sway them. My sister loves bulldogs, my mom likes poodles and big dogs, I love yorkies...etc. I know on another thread someone was looking to place a rescue dog because the owner died and family didn't want it. I know people don't understand why family wouldn't want a pet that a loved one owned...but I guarantee you if those poodles outlive mom, they ain't going to any of us. However, my husbands grandfather had one that he absolutely loved and would take him to get his nails painted-blue because it was a boy. To each their own I guess.

| Just my opinion If poodles are yappy it is because they are not corrected. Mine are not yappy, and I know many others that are not, the yappy ones are allowed to be just like any other dog.

| I truly believe it really depends on the owner. Not only are my moms dogs really annoying(yappy) but also not housebroken, no manners, walk on the tables, etc. I've heard in general poodles are extremely smart though. Like any animal, it really depends on the owner. I have a chihuahua and would not recommend that breed to someone because she does not seem to like children(or grownups for that matter) and is basically "my" dog. She's 8 years old so getting rid of her is not an option for me, I do have to put her away when my kids have friends over or if I am watching my nieces. I know there are some out there that are ok with other people but after talking to quite a few who also own chihuahuas it seems that they really tend to be a 'one' person type of dog. She's never been hurt and she will tolerate my kids but she would prefer if they and my husband didn't go near her. Skip the small but adorable chihuahuas(just in case anyone was considering one), at least poodles are more people friendly.
