I am surrounding Zoey and you in prayers Gail. |
I know how much this hurts to see your beautiful girl sick, and I'm so sorry. Your head must be overwhelmed with all of your questions; I hope the oncologist leaves you with answers, hope, and strength. My heart and my prayers are with you and sweet Zoey.. |
Thank you all so much. We are back now. Oncologist seemed like a doc we can work with. Her diagnosis was Stage IV lymphoma - b). We had the opthamologist do an eye exam- and thankfully no in dicators were present to suggest lymphoma in or behind eye. PRA, contaracts, glaucoma clear. But she does have uveitis - thickened iris - thought to be related to the lymphoma. We have drops to put in every 4 hours-24/7. ON the not so good note; there is evidence of liver and spleen involvement which according to the oncologist is not so unusual at this stage, and again we wait and see if she responds to the first two or so treatments. She had her first chemo treatment today via IV, and we came home with anti nausea meds anti diarrehea meds, an stomach coater, and prendisone. She did very well for the docs - everyone said how well behaved she was. We will know within the first 2 or so treatments if she can tolerate the treatments and if she will respond. Responding is good for longevity prognosis. How-ever the doc warned us that if there is a bowel obstruction, or if Zoey would need surgery, at this point in time she would not survive any surgery. Zoey was very happy to see us when we came back to pick her up, she even tried to jump up on me, which is a first in a week. Also they told us if within the first 72 hours she vomits, or has an accident inside the house, we must use gloves on our hands to clean up and a 5% bleach solution to clean up with. All bowel movements to be immediately picked up. Oh yes she has lost almost 5lbs in one week :-( and she was a lean dog to begin with. So a "guarded" kind of prognosis at this moment. |
Keeping Zoey in my thoughts and prayers. |
I've been thinking about you and Zoey all day, Gail. It's so good to hear that they were able to get chemo started right away. Sending lots of prayers that her body responds well to this first round. Hugs for you both, Bonny |
Thank Goodness.... now praying that she tolerates the chemo and has a complete recovery.... Hugs to you Gail... I can only imagine how stressful this must be... |
I'm glad Zoey is home with you, and I am praying she does well with the chemo. {{{{hugs to you Gail}}}} |

Whoopee Zoey ate at least 3 ounces of steak handfed to her tonight! To put this in perspective she usually eats 2pounds of homecooking a day. I'm so happy we were able to tempt her appetite a bit. Tomorrow I go buy another steak just for her! Maybe some salmon too. |
We will continue to keep Zoey and mommy in our prayers. We are hoping Zoey does much better than expected and that mommy gets much more time with her. |
