Baby Parrotlets My mom and dad, Gizmo and Gadget, have been sitting so tight on the eggs that I wasn't even sure how many eggs they had, but tonight they both left the nest box for a few minutes. So, I peeked in to see two tiny babies and 3 eggs!! Now, I just need to wait and see if the other eggs all hatch. I plan to pull them in a couple of weeks to handfeed, but mom and dad do such a good job, I'm waiting as long as I can! I tried to get pics, but my camera is too big to get any.

| Congratulations! How exciting! I hope the rest of the eggs hatch! I used to have an aviary and was always thrilled to see new babies! I'm happy for you! Keep us updated and we'll want to see pictures once they're a little bigger!

Aww, thanks, I will try to get some pictures, but they are barely budging off the eggs so not easy! It is kinda fun having them to feed and watch grow, just hope I can find good homes for them. My niece is taking one for sure, who knows, I may end up with all the rest,

Well, I have been trying to get some pictures, but they just don't come out. My camera is too big and the nestbox too small. I'm sure I will get plenty though, once I take them and start to handfeed them. That's alot of work, so I am going to let mom and dad do it for as long as I can As of last night, there were two babies hatched and 4 more eggs, yikes, what am I going to do with all these babies? At least they are tiny birds, lol.

This is not from this clutch, but I did find this pic of the last time they had babies. I am not sure how I got this one to come out, but it shows how they look at a couple of days old. I prefer not to handle them at all until they get bigger, I'm afraid I might hurt them.

Oh, it is definitely a lot of work! I used to breed cockatiels. I gave it up when my total of birds was getting too high. I found myself getting so attached..and then, many times people would bring them back. Just decided it was time to quit. They are so adorable when they get attached to you...running to you like you are momma, squawking...something I must say I enjoyed for the time that I did it. My son is an huge animal lover and I swear it is partly due to handling those tiny baby birds when he was young. He helped me feed them and care for them. Good luck with them! I will be looking forward to seeing pics of them as they grow up!

Finally got some pics! Here's my babies at 5 and 6 days old. Don't look like much do they? These are the only two that hatched, I took 3 eggs out yesterday that were clear. I don't know what happened to the 4th one, I didn't feel like digging around too much for it, but i know there was a 4th one, lol! I am glad that there are only two babies, I really didn't want to raise any more birds. At one time I had breeding pairs of Indian Ringnecks and African greys, but found that breeding birds was not for me. I took the nestbox away from these guys, and they went a long time without laying, but was afraid for her health if she kept laying eggs without a nestbox. I have them spoke for already, which is nice, I can just enjoy raising them, knowing they will be going to good home where they will be someone's special pet

picture of babies Just thought I would update. Here's my parrotlet babies at about 18 days old. I have taken them from the parents and am now handfeeding them. It looks like I have one of each, a boy and a girl. Happily, I already have homes for them, as I have 4 parrotlets already along with 6 other bigger birds so don't really need any more!
