Baby Parrotlets

Wow, how cool is that!!!!!! It's amazing how quickly they change from bald creature-like babies to beautiful birds. I've bred zebra finches quite a few years ago and loved seeing the changes in them as they grew.

Thanks everyone, for your nice comments Here's the parents, Gizmo and Gadget. I just took this pic, they are still bummed at me for taking the babies.

It is hard on them at first, but they quickly adjust. Very pretty birds...and I love their names!
You know...down here we have flocks of them all over the place! Once in a while I get some visitors in my back yard.

Yea, they seem to be settling down now, probably glad to have me take over the care of the babies.
That sounds so cool, I know where my mom lives in AZ there are lots of lovebirds that have gone wild, didn't realize parrotlets were also flocking around like that They are originally from South america, so would never survive here in IA for any length of time. We are very careful here when the birds are out, as most do not have the wings clipped, haven't had any escape yet

Congratulations on the babies. They're very cute. Hand feeding baby birds is awesome but a round the clock job. Keep us up dated with more pics as they mature.

We are on the Gulf here....and the parrotlets are from Mexico...on the Gulf side! That is why I guess they are here.
The first time I saw them after I moved here, I was at a Burger King. I got SO excited and got out of the car trying to call them....saying "pretty bird" over and over. I must have looked like a total doofus!
Had moved here from NJ where we did not have pretty birds like that. So..I came home and did some research and found out what they were.

My parrotlets do not talk, but from what I understand some do. I do have a macaw and 2 african greys that are quite talkative though, so around here with the talking birds and just the other noises the others make it is never quiet! I love it, though, and don't think I could handle a quiet household.

Aww, Gizmo and Gadget have made some adorable babies. I love it.

Oh, yes the larger birds (african greys and macaws) can be quite talkative! Smart fellars, thats for sure!

Well, the babies are almost 4 weeks old now. Even starting to nibble on millet, although I still need to feed them every 4 hrs. baby food. Our little Jewel and IRN parrot, Blue are quite interested in them. The other pets could care less! Here's some new pics taken in the last couple of days.
