I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The yorkie standard says that weight must not exceed 7 pounds, while the Maltese is said to be under 7 pounds, so theoretically, the Maltese who weighs 7 pounds would be over standard while the yorkie who weighed 7 pounds would be within standard. You could conclude that this means that the yorkie is bigger, but that would be a poor conclusion. I'm not aware of any stats on average, and there is much variation within the breeds. Maltese standard: American Maltese Association Yorkshire Terrier Standard. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America Official Breed Standard. You got a bet riding on this?

| I have a 7y old male Maltese who is 6.2 lbs and my 1y old male yorkie who is also 6.2 lbs now. But when they are standing next to each other, the maltese is a bit taller, because his legs are taller. My yorkie is more compact and although he also has a taller legs, is still shorter than the maltese. I love them both dearly. |

| It all depends on the dog, really. I think they're about the same size. |
