| ![]() I really debating if I want to get another pet or not. We still have Tilly and she is great with my son. I'm not much of a cat person, they are cute, but I was VERY attached to my childhood cat and he got hit by a car, and I just really have never been interested in getting another. I LOVE fish, but it's just so much work cleaning the tank and such. I even get waaay to close to my fish, if they live a week then die I'll stay up whining about it. I think hubby gets tired of hearing it. LOL Someone suggested a Golden Retriever. I would love to have one, but until May (when hubby graduates from college) we are stuck in this apartment. I don't think it's fair that the dog would have no room to run and play outside. Any suggestions on small sized dogs that tend to be good with children?

| ![]() Have you ever taken one of those dog breed selector quiz things? Thats how my family settled on Australian Shepherds, because they fit every aspect of our lives.

| ![]() What about a silky? They look a lot like a yorkie, are small, but are built just a little larger and a little sturdier.

| ![]() Australian Terriers look somewhat like a yorkie, but are supposed to be more family oriented dogs.

| ![]() I think you should wait till your son is a little older. Little dogs tend to be scared of kids more than bigger dogs(and it sounds like a big dog really wouldn't work in your household right now). Just enjoy Tilly for now. I have two boys. We've had a cat(ohhh the mess), guinea pigs(they nip and shoot poop out of the cage), dwarf hamster(cute but lived a short life, thanks a lot pet store!), fish, turtle for a little while, hermit crab(kinda smelly but a very neat pet really). Pets really aren't toys and I think you should only get a pet if it's something YOU want, not for your son. I learned the hard way. The heartbreak of a pet dying is hard. It was hard to explain to a 2 year old why the pet died, and it doesn't get easier when they're older and a pet dies of old age(both I've been through). We thought about getting a Sugar Glider but when I read they lived 15 years I changed my mind. I said if I'm committed to a pet for 15 years it's going to be one I want...hence my yorkie(who I've wanted forever). Since you just rehomed a pet, you might want to just take a break for now. Plus, with only one pet you can take her with you on vacation! A lot of hotels allow dogs if you check in advance.

| ![]() I would wait until you move then get a golden retriever. Little dogs aren't usually good with little kids.

| ![]() Personally I say wait until your son is a little older, it would be heartbreaking to bring another dog into your home who turned out to also not be good with your son. Even a breed that is generally very good with kids can have a tough time around very young ones. |

| ![]() My parents got a Bichon when I was like 5 or 6 and my brother was two. The Bichon was great with us and very protective. He would dare a stranger to come near us and is they did he would throw all of his 16 pounds of might at them. Just let a repair man try to come into the house or move around the house without my mother being present and he would corner them. He never bite anyone but is a dog was barking and growling at you would you chance it? I believe that any dog can be okay with kids if both are raise with rules, boundaries and limitations. Until my brother was older she did not leave him and the dog unsupervised but really no dog and small children should be let unsupervised. A puppy could get into all kinds of trouble and could a small child. I currently have a golden retriever, a yorkie and two maine coon cats. All are good with kids even though they were not raised with kids in the house. All were socialized to others at an early age. Good luck.....

| ![]() Boston Terriers are super kid pups, but not "toddlers".... I would wait a while too to add a pet. How heartbreaking it would be for you to have to rehome a furbaby... Please do not add a golden retriever without a fenced in yard or a place to run. They are very high energy dogs and need space to roam... I have a lab who is FABULOUS With little ones, but then again, my "larger" yorkie is totally into playing with the kids.... Good Luck to you... d
