I have two boys. We've had a cat(ohhh the mess), guinea pigs(they nip and shoot poop out of the cage), dwarf hamster(cute but lived a short life, thanks a lot pet store!), fish, turtle for a little while, hermit crab(kinda smelly but a very neat pet really). Pets really aren't toys and I think you should only get a pet if it's something YOU want, not for your son. I learned the hard way.

The heartbreak of a pet dying is hard. It was hard to explain to a 2 year old why the pet died, and it doesn't get easier when they're older and a pet dies of old age(both I've been through). We thought about getting a Sugar Glider but when I read they lived 15 years I changed my mind. I said if I'm committed to a pet for 15 years it's going to be one I want...hence my yorkie(who I've wanted forever). Since you just rehomed a pet, you might want to just take a break for now. Plus, with only one pet you can take her with you on vacation! A lot of hotels allow dogs if you check in advance.
Thank you for all of your advice! Our pets are definately mine. LOL My son is so young he could care less if we had a pet or not. My hubby likes French Bulldogs, but I'm not so sure. I don't know much about that breed.
