| ![]() I was wondering the other day about the old evening past time of sitting on porches....I used to love sitting on my porch watching the sites and just relaxing in the evening.....Years ago I used to live in the city ( yes, the wild city with those wicked city women) and had a house with a very large porch, it was like living in a real life cops episode every weekend....it was very entertaining to say the least...then we loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly ( no, just to the suburbs). Now when we sit on the porch it's just us and the crickets, so we listen to the police scanner for entertainment now....but the porch sitting is still a wonderful, simple way to relax....Do any of you engage in this activity or is it a long gone activity like mowing with a manual mower ?....

| ![]() I grew up sitting on our porch. It was a nightly activity and we were usually in jammies!!!!! For as long as we've lived in this house (23 years) we sit on the deck in the backyard rather than our front porch - but that is because we live on a main thoroughfare, we have large shrubs at the corners of the porch that mean lots of mosquitos and we have a bow window so lawn chairs/bench don't fit quite fit on the porch. I always wanted a house with a large wrap around porch with a rocking chair!!!!!!!

| ![]() That's my dream home...to have a big wrap around porch with vines growing up the posts , like a wisteria....I noticed a lot of the newer built homes don't even have a porch it's just steps with a landing...they don't know what their missing....

I agree. I love porches no matter what they look like!! In this house, I thought our porch would be great cause it is longer than what I grew up with. We did sit out there for the first few years we lived here, then the shrubs got HUGE and when we had new windows installed, the bow went in the front which took lots of the porch away!!! But, the perk was the deck we built out back. That is where all my perennial flowers are along with my two water fountains. It is kind-of like my oasis and I love it back there!!!

| ![]() We have a wrap-around porch on our house out in the country. Also have the requisite two rocking chairs on the front porch. Unfortunately, we don't think to sit out there very much. I think it would be kinda cool to live in a "Mayberry-ish" kind of town and sit on the front porch and talk to people as they go by. All there is to do on our front porch is watch the cows and listen to the frogs down on the tank and of course, look at the stars. Not a bad life if you take the time to enjoy it. ![]()

| ![]() We have a big porch in our front yard but dont sit out there very often. We have a screened gazebo out in our backyard and thats where we sit. We have landscaped our backyard and have a pond and a waterfall out there so thats why we like to sit out there. In the morning I will take my laptop out there and sit and it is so peaceful

| ![]() I love a house with a porch. I grew up in one. My father, carpenter, built a large swing and hung it on one side. I would sit there a swing every night. It was such a wonderful time especially when I started bringing the boys home to swing with me. ![]() Well, today I have a deck! Bud and I sit out there on weekends having our morning tea and now that it's getting cooler, sit there after dinner and take in the sites. He just loves to see what is going on. He's noiser than I am ![]() Thanks for the trip down memory lane. |

| ![]() Yes, things were much simpler then...at least for us as children. I'm so glad that you have good memories of your childhood too. Grandma and Granddaddys home is gone now too. I guess some people call it progress...not me. So much has been lost in the name of progress. I truly long for those days of catching fire flies, playing in the rain and playing hide and seek and kick the can until it was too dark to see. |
