| Need to vent: I hate the job world Somone needs to tell you once you graduate college it is impossible to find a job! I've been out of college 2 years. I sent out nearly 100 applications when we first moved here for teaching job, never heard back from anyone but 3 schools telling me the position was filled. We planned on moving this sumer back to PA and the same thing, never heard back from ANYONE! We have decided to stay here another year. Don't get me wrong I love being a nanny, but I get no benefits (really no nannies get these) and I feel like I wasted my time in college because I'm not teaching right now! I was a nanny all during college to put me through and now that I finished 5 years of school I have nothing to show for it but a piece of paper. UGH!!!! And there are really no other jobs in my field that pay well except daycare (and thats not for me.) Seriously. I never knew finding a simple teaching job would be so hard, maybe it wouldn't be so bad if my family didn't keep calling me asking me if I'm still "babysitting"? Right now the search has pretty much ended, I've given up on finding a teaching job in Colorado, but I'm sick to my stomach thinking about next May when we do move and this crap starts all over again.

| Believe it or not, I understand your frustration. When I graduated from nursing school, there was not a job to be had. Can you believe that? I finally ended up going to work in a very small town, where they had difficulty attracting anyone. After a year or so, I had enough experience to land a job in a town where I wanted to live. If you have the means, you might consider looking at smaller towns out in the boonies. Have you looked into any of those tutoring places like Sylvan? Also, you could start your own business as a tutor and sign on to do substitute teaching until something better comes along. Just some suggestions for what they are worth.

| So sorry to hear the job market is giving you a hard time just when you where looking forward to moving on & up...I was just listening to some radio talk show the other day & I couldn't believe it when they said that 60% of the people who get out of collage are not working in the field they graduated from & now they have all this debt to pay off,so it' apparently is happening all over....hope things get better for you

| I am sorry that you are having trouble finding a job. Teaching positons are hard to come by here in my town and the surrounding counties also. When I got out of nursing school I could have gone to any hospital or nursing home in Southeast Kentucky and got a job on the spot and I still could so I guess I am lucky in that sense. My daughter just graduated from highschool and she is thinking of being a teacher, I will have to expain how hard it is to find a job. |

| don't give up! Hi, I'm new here, but I had to post and let you know that you are not alone. I am just finishing my first year of teaching June 20th, but it took a long time and many, many resumes (like 75 in 2 months) before I got a job. I was rejected quite a few times and didn't hear anything from the other districts.I wound up taking a long term sub position that I was offered two weeks before the school year started! It turned into a full year job - DON'T give up!!! Remember teaching is very political - it's all about who you know and it stinks when you don't know anyone! Elementary ed positions are the hardest to find - Math and science high school the most available jobs. Luckily I was dual certified to teach elem. and high school English b/c that is what saved me! Remember you can always take the Praxis in a subject area if you have the credits and get certified in a particular content area! Good Luck!!! Don't give up! And when you DO get a job (you will) remember that your first year is supposed to be he**! You get thrown into the fire! |

| Where are you moving to? I am going back to school post grad for my teaching license and my advisor told me straight up that I will be moving to teh south or vegas when I graduate as those are the only places plentiful in teaching jobs...in fact, four of my friends are down in South Carolina teaching and two did end up moving to Vegas. Thanks for the warning on what the job market will be like and what I get to expect ::sigh:: good luck Quote:

| I just finished my first year of college. I'll be in your shoes in 4 years or so, because I've wanted to be a teacher my entire life. Good luck, I know its hard!

| I'd also suggest looking into tutoring centers, like Sylvan. I hear they pay better than teaching as well.
