				   | Hi Guys and Gals, I have been having personal and physical problems lately. One of them is irregular heart rhythms. My cardiologist has strongly suggested that I give up caffeine, nicotine, and get on the South Beach Diet. So,....., I was wondering if any of ya'll have had any experience with it? Maybe simple recipes? or just any thoughts on it ? Thanks in advance, Teri

				   | I am not totally familiar with South Beach guidelines but I do know that it is low carb. I have been doing low carb since october and have been very successful at weight loss. I have found a low carb substitute for just about anythin I crave....accept rice!! LOL But I've survived without it I don't really do recipes as our diet is very simple and we eat mostly whole unprocessed foods. Like chicken and veggies for dinner, Strawberries and whipped cream for dessert, Egg & veggies omelet for breakfast, tuna salad for lunch. We use guacamole and ranch dip to flavor a lot of things. They have really great tortillas made by Mission that are so much like the real thing that my kids haven't even noticed the switch. I use these for lots of things like fajitas or I make them into chips with salsa. Good luck! My husband also does low carb and he has lowered his blood pressure and his diabetes went away. I've lost 50 + pounds and it's been a life changing experience for the both of us. |

				   | My husband and I did it and the only thing I didn't like was it included an absurd (to me) amount of veggies. It was something like a cup in the morning and 2 c at lunch and 2 c at dinner- and you HAVE to eat that amount- no skimping. I love salads and veggies but it was really hard for me to eat so many.

				   | South Beach is not really a low carb diet, at least not in the way that Atkins is. It does allow a moderate amount of complex carbs, especially after you get into the second phase. I was not on it for very long so I can't tell you if it was helpful to weight loss or not.

				   | I can't drink anything unless it's decaffeinated and I find I feel terrific and full of energy by eating fresh raw or steamed veggies and different fruits. |

I think she probably means fruits/veggies?? I couldn't imagine veggies in the AM unless it was in an omelette, but still no way I could do a cup in a omelette haha! And I'm a veggie FREAK!

				   | Nope- no fruit during phase 1. I did things like spinach or broccoli omelets but it was really hard to get the full amount of veggies for me. My husband drank V8 for his morning veggies.
