The OS has been out for quite awhile, at least I remember using it at least my Senior year in high school (2003), but maybe my Junior or sooner... I can't remember. But thats all we have at the school district that my dad works at and OSX is AMAZING! LOVE IT! He has Microsoft Office on his, I can't remember what other Windows things he has on it...

| I assume the post is referring to the Mac OS - if so, it came out before Jan 2004, which is when I bought my iBook.......

| I'd recommend you get the type that is predominantly used by your school. At mine, we use Macs, so many of our students use Macs - but we have both in our labs. Also, it might depend on your major. If you do lots of graphic art, then I'd get a Mac, if you do lots of statistics, then a PC might run more of the programs you need. If you just want ease of use, I'd get a Mac, but if you are used to a PC, then that's the way to go.....

| I did tons of Journalism and my friend is a photographer, and for both I suggest the mac. She had to do everything on the mac because of the programs, she loves it. I know that I love mine, so simple! But I would see what your school is going to be using the most, thats what I had to do. I know that right now, my college is kinda doing both (wish I would have known that up front)...

| I have the black Macbook powerbook and i LOVE it. I bought it through my college (University of Maryland) and I have a 4 year warrenty, on-campus service, it came bundled with a bunch of school software like firefox and thunderbird. You can install adium, which is a messanger where u can use your aim or msn service through it, and it is much more advanced and fun. I have Word, Powerpoint, and Excel (they are Mac versions, but produce the same files as a PC so it is compatible with anyone's version) and Photoshop. But I use IPhoto, like others said its really user friendly. I can run OSX or windows. You should check if your school has a program with Apple, you can find out by navigating the student section of the Apple site. I give Macs

| yes I looked that up.. the student discount is what you mean right? Or did you purchase your mac at school? Unfortunatly my school only runs windows.. but I hardly ever have to use their writing labs and I have my own printer set up at home.... just wondering if that is going to be compatible if I buy a mac.... |
