| good mattress? I'm in the process of looking for a new mattress. I have 2 bulging discs in my lower back and have back discomfort on a regular basis and my current mattresses are not good enough. They are really comfortable but I always feel worse in the morning so I think I need a mattress that is a bit more firm. Does anyone have any suggestions???

| My husband has 2 buldging discs in his lower back too. When we moved to this house we bought a Tempurpedic mattress and we love it. You sleep sound and he wakes up with no more back pain...you feel rested when you wake up. He has no trouble sleeping on it but I do because he snores...but that's not the fault of the mattress! We're adding a new master bedroom and we'll probably put another one in there. |

| We have a tempurpedic mattress and we absolutely love love love! It is more expensive than traditional mattresses, but worth every penny. Now, of course, there are those who don't like them. My daughter has a friend and she and her husband did not like theirs - there is a 30 day trial period where you can return it and they did. But they are the only ones out of ALOT that I know that have a tempurpedic and love it. One other thing is that they are warmer to sleep on so if you get hot when you sleep, you might not like them.

No Longer a Member | I also have two bulging discs, and I have had lots of pain at night for a few years now. I have been afraid to fork out the bux on the tempurpedic because even though they have a 30 day trial, you have to pay $175 to return it. Anyway, in the meantime, I picked up a memory foam topper from Joann's. I think the one I got is 3" thick. I got it on sale plus with the 20% coupon they have every week on their flyers. This has really helped, and it was under $100. I'm sure the mattress would be better, but if you can't afford one, this is a good substitute for the time beiing. |

| I'll be interested in replies to this thread also. I was thinking about the temperpedic, but if they're warm, I certainly won't enjoy that! Mattresses are so danged expensive these days and I want to make the right choice. Good luck in your search and I'll keep an eye on the replies! |

| The Tempurpedic mattresses are warmer than a traditional mattress but that means you can turn your heat down one or two degrees more at night (which will save a few $$ ) and if you have central air in the summer it's not really a big deal. We love ours...we have a queen now but we'll probably get a king for the new room. |

I know--they are very expensive and I'd pay the price for a tempurpedic but I'm just concerned that I'll feel the same as I do now when I wake up in the morning. I'll have to shop around...maybe I can find a sale

| I have had back problems for years and go to Dallas to pain management once every month...My daughter has a Tempurpedic mattress and it feels good to lay on. Now your going to laugh on this one...I have a waterbed, and its the only bed that brings me comfort. I have a memory foam topper that is 3" thick on the top and 2 egg crates under that, lol...but I tell you, when I sleep out of town or on anything else..I wake up stiff and feeling crippled. I wouldn't trade anything in place of my waterbed. So thats my story...and I'm sticking to it

| Another thing you might like is a zero gravity chair but don't get a cheap one. Go to a back store and try one there...we're going to get 2 of them when we get new furniture this summer. They're made at an angle that removes the pressure points when you sit down so you don't have any back pain. They're not cheap either but if you have back pain and can't get anything done about it the mattress and chairs are well worth the money. If you don't want to buy a mattress to try it out call around to the hotels in your area...some of them use the memory foam mattresses...you could spend a night or two there, have a little vacation and see how you like the mattress. |

| Get a Tempurpedic! My roommate has one and I wish I would have splurged on one. I sit/lay on it a lot and its sooo worth it in my opinion. |

| I have some extensive back problems, had surgery that failed. One of the best things I have done for my back was to buy a memory foam mattress. I could not quite see paying the $2000+ for a Tempurpedic so I ordered a generic one on ebay. I got a king sized one for less than $500, don't remember the exact bid. But it has been GREAT! My son wants one now, so I need to get busy and bid again.

| What about trying one of those down pillow beds first. I hear they are so darn comfortable. |
