Default Waitressing is NO joke!

Today was my very first day of waitressing at a restaurant here in the city. OMG let me tell you how tired I am. It's crazy!!! I've never waitressed before so I had 3 days of training but you have to learn a little computer where you put the orders in. I messed up a couple times, I had one table leave because their food took too long, and usually the waiter/tress has to pay for their food if the cooks already made it but since it was my first day the manager didn't make me pay. Thank goodness! A lot of ppl were nice about it because they knew it was my first day but some ppl were just so mean and anooying. I couldn't even go to the bathroom for a minute. It was sooooo busy and you always have to be doing something. The good thing is that it's a good restaurant and the ppl are sooooooooo nice and we get a free meal, depending on which shift we have. But I almost felt like crying of how crazy it was but I need to get used to it. I like it a lot and plus I need the money! lol Just needed to share that in case anyone wants to do waitressing.

Memories! Waitressing is hard work -- physically and mentally. Lots of "smiles and miles" -- of walking that is! Hope the tips are good!

Tell me about it, I should glue a fake smile to my face. The tips were pretty good, some didn't tip much but then others made up for it so it evens out.

i have been waitressing for 2 years in march at a buffet! but we take plates , take away plates, refill, get them whatever they need, and buss our own tables. soo much work and sometimes i hate it but then i see the money and i feel a little better. i mean honestly i dont go to the bathroom at work. we actually start off with like 20 tables and get up to taking a whole side by ourselves. it really has its good and bad times. but im only 19 and i feel 80 honestly i wake up at night every night because of my back and my knees kill me i cant keep them bent, and its just exhausting. but i make up to about 1800 a month a little more or less depending on the month

OMG yes, I think it's one of the hardest jobs I ever had. My poor feet had to be soaked every night in epsom salts Get some GOOD shoes, girl, your feet will thank you. Get some that nurses buy, just ask at a shoe store.

The money can't be beat though I used to have a friend (neighbor) that was a stripper and I made MORE money than her waitressing

I worked in clubs and remember loving the jobs - but hating the toll it takes on your body - you will be tired for WEEKS but you'll get used to it and you WILL get the hang of it - it's not nearly as easy as it looks...but it's always fun - you'll meet great people !! (and lots of jerks too lol)

I waitressed at Carrabba's (YUM!!!) for about two years. I was never in so much pain after work then when I was working there!!! The money was phenomenal, but the pain? Not worth it!!!

My first day on the floor (with another server 'assisting' me) I was serving a round table of five. Those of you that have been to Carrabba's know that they have an open kitchen, and my party was seated right in front of them. The owner and manager were standing up at expo (right in front of the table) and as I go over with a try of two waters, a hot tea, a coke and a ice tea, I was sooooo nervous I knocked one of the glasses of water on the ladies. She jumps up and screams (which causes the whole resto/kitchen/everyone to look!!!) and just stands there as ice cubes are falling off her. I want to die so I reach to grab my linen (off my apron) and knock over the hot tea, other water and ice tea on the lady sitting next to her!!! She jumps up, screams and glass is breaking. IT WAS THE MOST HUMILIATING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!! We were on a two hour wait and there were sooooooo many ppl there. The girl shadowing me was in shock, the owner looked like her was going to kill me and I just walked in the back and cried. I called my SO and told him and he said not to worry, everyones done it. The owner came in the back and told me to go home. I thought I was fired but he said to make sure I came back the next day.

Boy does that bring back memories. I paid for college by waitressing at a country club where I went to school. Great tips if you worked at it. Hardest physical work I've ever done. Taught me alot about people though and how to get along with them (or get away from them) .

Been there - Done that! lol It IS hard work. And, because I know what it takes, hubby looks to me for or regarding tips. Unlike many, I will not tip "just because" in order not to appear cheap. I won't tip someone who seems to hate their job, and makes us feel like it's a favor to serve. Yes, waiting tables is hard work - but, it's a choice. If ya don't wanna do it -then do something else. By the same standard, I'm very generous if the waiter/waitress is pleasant and attentive - making our time spent at his/her station a pleasant experience.

Talking Yep...the ice tea...

OMG.....I did the same thing working at Litton's in Knoxville Tn. If any of you have been to knoxville, Litton's is in the North area in Fountain City, always busy, great food.... I had just started.....probably pretty new.....and I had a tray of drinks.....and yes....I knocked it over and it fell on a lady and her husband........I was so embarrassed......I started crying and SHE felt sooooooo bad for me......and the owner always had such high expectations for his servers.......I thought I was fired too............but, I offered to pay the dry cleaning bill, and she kept saying....."its ok honey, its ok, really, don't cry........", but I still kept crying......and yes... I had to keep working.......

But, it is great work. and fun., and hard, with great money and benefits.....you never run out of cash.....and you get skinny too.....cuz, you are constantly running......

Hang in there!!!!!

I always tip just maybe not as much if bad service as I feel we all have bad days, maybe the cooks screwed up, the place is short staffed. Hang in there!!

YES everyone has spilt something on somebody! i spilt tea down a ladys back while carrying huge tray of dishes(like i said we buss our own tables). Oh i swear we get yelled at for the dumbest things by people you couldnt even imagine how rude people are! And certain people down here who wear green uniforms lol everyone has them never tip! And i can honestly say im one of the best waitresses at my work. after a while you will have a routine and that helps a lot. I always tip but the amount is based on your work and attitude. unless you didnt come back to the table the whole time then you wont get tipped lol!

also after waitressing its hard switching to a new job(not waitressing) without taking a huge pay decrease. its kind of like you get stuck in waitressing, and after having that big income you base everything you buy on it payments and no payments. so its hard switching

I've been to some restaurants now where they make the waitress memorize the order..... I can get a bit specific w/ my order w/ the "on the sides & leave this & that off " so I'm thinking, "She's never going to remember that, & sure as sh*t she remembers it all!" And I NEVER send anything back for correction
