| My daughter married an Australian boy. She had her passport before she was married. If she changed her name to his when they got married she would not be able to go to Australia with him right away. So she kept her maiden name. Almost 2 years later it doesn't seem to be a big deal with them so they haven't bothered to change her name. It is what you and your boyfriend are comfortable with, not everyone else. |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | I don't know if I would take his last name, I like my last name and there's no one else I know with it so I'm not too sure. I don't think it's disrespectful, it depends on the husband. If he thinks it's ok then do it. |

| I'm married and I did NOT take his name. Why? 1. I didn't like it. He doesn't like it either He briefly considered taking mine 'cause it's a nicer name...but in the end he urged me not to feel bad by not taking it because had the tables been turned, he'd wouldn't take it either! 2. Everything is in my name. He moved into my apartment, we drive my car, all the bills are in my name, my bank account, etc. Too much hassle to change everything! 3. My career. I've built a name for myself at work - colleagues and clients know me by that name, I don't want to have to correct every other person all the time. Creates too much confusion. Having said all that, I think one day when we have children they'll have his name just for the sake of tradition, even though I hate to saddle them with a name no one can pronounce. |

| i was so happy to change my last name to my husband's last name.. because my original name was totally ugly LOL.. it was Khristine M. Barras.. and i'd always get the freakin joke, so your totally embarrased huh khristine.. or.. of course.. bare @$$.. lol people didn't know how to pronounce it lol. and to hyphenate it would be wayyyyy to freakin long lol.. my first name is 9 letters, barras =6 and new last name is 8 .. way too long for me to write lol. i took my husbands last name and dropped my maiden last name and kept my middle name. and it just goes a lot better. I think it's preference really. and my husband wouldn't have freaked out either if i didn't want to change it.. he said it's my name lol.. |

| At the end of the day, it's your decision to make. My preference, like I said before, would be to take my husbands name... but if your preference is to keep yours, then keep it! If down the road you decide to take his name, you can always change it!
