You must be an excellent cook. We had hamburger patties with avacado.:p I have some salmon thawing for tomorrow's dinner. I always put lemon pepper on it but maybe you can tell me how to make it like you did. |

The salmon was easy...I have a grill pan that I can use on my stove so I grilled the salmon in butter and lemon juice, tossed in some Rosemary, salt and pepper...when it was just about cooked I mixed some mustard and maple syrup together and put it on for the sauce...then I grilled it a bit on each side so the sauce was kind of caramely. For the veggies just use a non-stick pan with a little PAM or Olive oil...cut the red peppers into short strips and saute them in the pan with some broccoli tops...then add some pepper. See, pretty simple! Hubby won't eat salmon so he's having a pepperoni pizza...which is a real test of my will power...a lightly browned, extra pepperoni, thin crust pizza is my favorite! My salmon is really good though! I'll use the left over salmon for my lunch tomorrow. I'll put it over a salad with some tomatoes, onion, maybe an olive or two and a dill/vinagrette dressing. |
YUMMY! I'll try it out! (Nothing wrong with eating the top off a slice of pizza....:p ) |

I am starting a low carb on 1/2/2007. I have already quit smoking and now I will start on weight loss and exercise. I had to get rid of my smoking demon first and I am now looking forward to being slim and trim again:D |

Please be careful with the Atkins Diet. With it's mostly unlimited fat...it is very bad for your heart and arteries. My Dr. thought South Beach was a better choice over Atkins. You should check with your Dr. first. SB was very easy for me and I lost 56 lbs in about 4 months. I never felt deprived at all. I just need to start it again and then manage with Weight Watchers like was suggested. |

My best friend has been low carb dieting for 2 months now and she has lost 40lbs(15% of her weight)! Im so proud of her. My dad also had diabetes and he low carb dieted and he is now in the best shape of his life and his diabetes are now completely under control. But one thing I didnt knwo about low carb dieting that I recently learned: it can cause kidney stones. My best firend had a horrible case of kidney stones last month and the doctors said it was becasue of too much protien in her diet brought on by the adkins diet she is on. He said to be sure and drink lots and lots of water. |

That's awesome that your friend lost so much and that your dad is doing so well! |
I low carbed for a year and lost 35 pounds. I wore a size 4 for awhile, but everyone said I was looking too skinny (IMAGINE!) Which really was too skinny for my frame. I have leveled out between size 6-8 for over 18 months and keep it off with modified low carb and portion control. I just try to avoid pasta, bread, processed food and eat lots of fish, chicken, salads, nuts, some fruits. A lot of people warned me of the "dangerous" things about low carbing, so I stopped telling people how I was doing it. I never felt better. My doctor told me I would live to be a really old lady just looking at my lab. Anyway, a word of advice to all you new low carbers: YOU WILL WANT TO EAT PAINT OFF THE WALLS the first three days cause you will be so hungry. STICK IT OUT and drink lots of water and a miracle will occur and you won't even feel hungry after the three days. DO NOT CHEAT or it will never get you to the appetite suppression. Also, I always get a pretty yucky headache when I induce (the three day hell I was telling you about), but it's worth it. It also keeps me on the program, because I dread having to induce again and bring on the headaches! Get ready for the pounds to melt off like you've never seen if you stick to it!! |

And you are so right! When I started back in october I would just go to the cupboards and smell everything I couldn't have LOL. I'd chew up a cracker and spit it out LOL Anything to get me through the first few days. But then as you say, it is a miracle, you are not hungry at all very soon after. And the headaches... take 2 excedrin first thing in the morning the first two days of induction, just in case...LOL The headaches can be awful but I realized mine was more from coming off caffeine than coming off sugar. So I still let myself have coffee...It hasn't seemed to inhibit my weightloss and I didn't have the headaches this time. |

Im so proud of my dad, he was really unhealthy for so many years and he just recently developed diabetes about 5 years ago. His doctor said he had to loose weight and change his diet, so he lost all the weight and he continues to eat healthy. His diabetes didnt go away completely but its well under control and his levels(I cant remember the medical terms for them) are awesome. NOw if I can just get my dad to quit smoking I will be the happiest daughter in the world! |
[QUOTE=chloeandj]I lost 32 pounds doing a low carb diet since october. I took a break through the holidays and managed to keep it all off. Now I'm going for the next 30! I started a low carb diet again today...anyone want to join me? I'd love some low carb friends. Ok, I will join you, I am wanting to lose about 30 pounds, I am crazy for doing this because I love carbs! That's probably my problem now, lol, I probably will try not to mention this diet to hubby because he says he loves me the way I am and don't need to go on any diets! I will start tomorrow! Wish me Luck? |
I'm in!! I need to lose at the least 50lbs. I used to do south beach and I loved it but it was kinda expensive compared to atkins. I would love to learn new recipes to try, one of my favorites with the sout beach diet was the roasted veges omg it is so good!! I hope I will be more succesful doing this with a group of people! |

Good luck! You can do it! |

I don't know much about South Beach. Why is it more expensive? |
I'll join you too. I lost 56 lbs 3 yrs ago on Atkins and kept it off for one year. But, life happens and for several reasons, I gained most of it back. My daughter is being married in May and I'd like to look nice for her wedding. Maybe I can manage 30 pounds by the end of April. |
OH I wanted to add that we bought the book "body for life" A dietician I know recomended it. Wow there is a lot of good info and very easy to follow. They also have a website that i saw a lot of good recipes on. |

I never notice it was more expensive at all in the every day food I bought. Maybe it was the SouthBeach brand of food they are talking about. |
Good luck everyone!!! Patrick and I began a simple healthy eating lifestyle last January. Nothing big, just cut his red meat to once a week, ate more veggies, chicken, fish, etc. When he had his heart attack in May he had lost over 30 lbs.! He felt soooo much better and his cardiologist credited the severity of the attack to his having already begun eating healthy and to the weight loss. Sadly, with all the stress of this year, he rebelled and went back to his bad food habits! :( As my New Year's resolution, I will become something I have never, ever been .... a constant nagger!!! :p I just want him to be healthy and to just try the suggestions of his doctor! There are so many things already that he cannot do because of his weight and this frustrates him even more ... it's a vicious cycle!! I am just the opposite ... I seldom eat meat or sweets. When I eat meat it's always chicken or fish ... broiled. I believe with the proper seasoning, you can make the sole of your shoe taste good!! :p Soooo ... regardless of you reasons for doing this .... please do it for your health first!! ;) |
Well, I'm in too...but not sure when I'm going to start. This time I'm taking before and hopefully after pictures. I am going with the SouthBeach again since I know it worked so well for me. I'm just going to have to make sure I don't let it slip back on like I did this last time.:) |
Well...I'm really considering trying this - I did Nutrisystems and only lost 15 - so that was a huge dissapointment - I guess it's due to hormones so I need something that will jump start metabolism Can someone put what foods to Start with ??? I saved the Atkins site and am reading but would love to hear how YOU started the first few weeks...step by step ....is that a big pain ??? I got the water machine lol - so that's easy -but is this a diet where you HAVE to eat alot of food ?? I'm terrible about skipping meals |
Ok, I'm on day 3 and 2 lbs have left the building! :cheer: I'm off to eat some eggs...:p |

So - is this good for people who need to lose under 15 lbs too ??? that's about my goal - it just seems too much GOOD food .....I'm reading up on it and am pretty good at sticking with something when I start - |

Btw..why doesn't everyone just try simply eating healthy? Having a balanced meal instead of completely cutting out one of something. I don't mean to preach but the Atkins diet is horrible for you. I mean, do you really think it's healthy to lose weight by being able to eat bacon and sausage? And like everyone says, South Beach is too expensive and I bet Nutrisystem is too. I hired an online trainer and he laid out my meal schedule. All of them are balanced meals consisting of whole protein, complex carb, and fruit or whole protein, healthy fats, and cooked veggies. I find it much easier to do since I can still have certain carbs such as oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat tortillas, etc. I just really don't like to hear it when someone's doing the Atkins...Yes you're losing weight but not in a healthy way. |
