| Number of Cars--Any couple have just one??? Okay, this is a bit of a weird situation, and I need outsiders' non-emotional opinions. My husband and I have two cars. We have each had one when we were in college, and kept them when we got married. For personal reasons, I cannot drive until at least December, and I will not work until next year. Hubby just needs to go to school. I am considering selling one of the cars because (1) we haven't used the darn thing for so long that it's batteries have died and we didn't even realize, (2) we need to pay car insurance in september (we always pay 6 mos. upfront), and I really don't feel like paying 300 dollars to get it insured so the car can sit and look pretty in the parking lot. But, then I think to myself, eventually we are both going to be driving. Maybe a year from now, but we will. The one I am considering selling is a 1999 car, it works fine, but it is getting older and older. I just can't decide if it is better to get a new car in the future when we both need to drive. Sorry for the long long message, but the end question is this: are there any couples out there that do fine with one car? should I sell one of the cars even though we might need it a year later? I welcome any and all opinions. Thank you!

| We have only one car (pick up truck) and we're doing just fine. I'm not working outside the house though. I schedule my shopping around my husbands working hours and anything else we do mostly together anyway. We did the math of me getting a full time job vs. staying home and making a few bucks on the side and we are better off now. As to our situation: we live in a small town on the Eastern Shore of MD and own an old house that needs some TLC. I'm very handy and do most of the renovation myself (and have fun with it!) Hope that helped a little! |

| This post caught my because my husband has a thing for vehicles with good prices tags..he is addicted to buying anything, about a month ago we had my durango (never will i part with it 1998 and wonderful) my husband had a 78 bronco lifted up, and a 1992 ford explorer that only had 88,000 miles (wow!!!), and a couple of months before that he had something different, anyhow he finally downsized to a 1995 gmc seirra and i think we may have finally stopped the madness. but i think it is wonderful if a person can survive with out a vehicle or just one. but i personally need my own escape at times. just roll the windows down and drive down a country road, and i couldnt do that if my husband didnt have a vehicle, what if he needed to go somewhere and plus we have a toddler so if i was away and there was an emgencies....or if somthing happeneds to one vehicle we have a backup...but not having 2 would really save on the pocket books....but i would be scared to part with 1 much less 2 because you never know what your furture will bring you |

| before we moved to germany we had two cars... until my hubby totaled his mustang and then we just had my dogg neon that I had scent HS. (its a 96) and it SUCKED!! We lived in austin at the time and he worked in killeen so it was like a hr drive to and from work for him. I went to school at 6am till 12pm and then went to work every other day from 4pm to 12 am SO I had to dive him to work or have my friend who worked with me, take me to work. It really sucked! Now that i am in germany we still only have one car. I left my neon back home with my mom and we have a 1987 VW polo...but it really dose not matter to me BC I dont have my diver license here. I am still waiting on them to send me the book so I can read it and take the test.... |

| We have three vehicles and I'm the only one that drives. The problem is with older vehicles you cant get much for them, but when you go to replace it, it will cost you plenty. Is the car paid for? If yes then definitelly keep it. You can put storage insurance on it for a lot less because if you aren't driving it you won't need liability, and I believe you can even get a reduced rate on retgistration if you are not driving it. |

| I don't know about the laws in your state but here, if a vehicle is not driveable (or owner will not be driving it for some time), you can turn the tags in on the vehicle and in doing so, do not have to carry insurance on it. If your future could mean you'd need a second car, why not check into the possibility of turning in the tags, putting it in the garage, and not carrying insurance on it. Your insurance agent should be able to answer that for you on if it can be done in your state. Or, as someone else suggested, just carry storage insurance on it. I would check with your agent and see what the cost would be to carry liability and comprehensive coverage on it only. Most companies won't let you carry coverage without liability. I would lower the liability as low as your state allows, go with a $500 or so deductible on your comprehensive (will protect the vehicle if, heaven forbid, your home should catch fire, it were to get vandalized, etc.). That should lower your insurance cost on it a good bit. Then, when you are ready to resume driving it, call your agent and have them increase the coverage on it. There are options out there for you other than selling it. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

| We only have one car is a truck and my husband is the one who drives it. I live so close to work that sometimes I walk and some others I ride my bike and I'm at work in 3 minutes, plus I take that as my daily exercise.
