| I have someone who comes in every othe week and cleans. She does not clean my children's bedrooms. They clean thier own bedrooms. I work full time and I love having the help. It is so nice to come home to a clean house. There is still plently to do the weeks she does not come. But I was there spending every weekend doing laundry and cleaning all weekend. Now I just do laundry. Its nice to have time to do some other things on the weekends

| Life is too short to spend it doing housework! I'm living alone right now (along with Max, my Yorkie) and have a maid come in every 3 weeks. I'm very neat, but she cleans up after me if I leave anything lying around. I used to have her every 2 weeks, but I don't need her that often. I also send the laundry out. I call, the guy comes and takes it, I call again and he brings it back clean. Life is good. The maid is $50 every 3 weeks for a 4 room apartment and the laundry is about $10 every 2 weeks. I wash whatever needs to be by hand, which is easy enough. I've always done this, married, single, when my daughter lived at home, etc. and always will. If your guys don't clean up after themselves, you might want to try throwing their stuff into their rooms and telling the maid not to bother cleaning in there. I tried that with my daughter (once she was old enough) until she quickly figured out that her laundry wasn't getting done. Good luck, Judy Last edited by judyeve; 07-31-2006 at 12:37 PM. |

| I have someone that cleans every other week. The hardest part is making sure everything is in it's place before she comes. I don't want her to go out of her way to clean around our misplaced messes. I've done this for about 10 years or so - after our second child was born. I do still clean bathrooms and stuff on the in-between weekend and I "Shark" all of the floors (we have all hardwood and tile) sometimes 3 times a week (dirt and dust - the joys of country living). I don't think my kids are any "lazier" because of this. They do know HOW to clean just fine but I enjoy the convenience. The only free time I have to do any cleaning would be the weekends because I work out of town and just don't have the time once I get home each night. It really stinks when you're cleaning inside all day when the outdoors beckons! I even have an "ironing lady" - my grandmother! She has ironed for people for so long and charges me a very minimal amount. I think for her it's more of just something to do with herself AND it means she will definitely see me every couple weeks at least. If I don't have much to take and miss a weekend, she's calling looking for the clothes! I say if you can afford a cleaning person, it's definitely the way to go. It's just something I've learned to budget because it's so refreshing to come home to a really clean house after her visits!

You know what? I actually like it too.... so much that I wouldn't mind doing it for SOMEONE ELSE for some extra cash. Problem is finding the time! Cleaning to me at times is therapeutic but still is no fun when everyone else is outside playing or something else fun and I'm cleaning.
