| Credit cards?? I know many of you have them. I have tryed my best to avoid getting a credit card, I do have a debit card though. Anyways, I am looking to get a credit card and don't know which one to get, there are soooo many. I want a credit card only for emergencies, mainly for my animals and one with no annual or monthly fees. All of the emergency clinics require you to pay in full to get your pet help, they won't arrange payment plans or work with you, but they do take credit cards. So if your dog is dying and needs help, you can't get it unless you have all the money on hand (highly doubtful since the bill can be really expensive) or unless you have a credit card. I have checked all emergency clinics around here and they all say the same thing. What happened to vets who care about the lives of the animals??? I guess I got a little freaked out when my cocker ate some chocolate (alot) a couple days ago and just the thought that I could not do anything for her if she got sick from it scared me. She is perfectly alright now and I am very grateful that she did not get sick or anything really bad happen. So for peace of mind I need to get a credit card in case something bad happens, which I really hope never will. So what credit cards do you guys use that you are happy with. Or can you recommend a credit card that would be good for the purpose I need it for???

| I would go with whatever company gives you the best interest rate. Have you already established credit in another way? If so, you probably get offers in the mail quite often. Credit card companies are all pretty similiar. I would recommend both Citi Cards and Discover. They are pretty great companies and they both offer lower interest rates on occasion. Do not hestitate to ask for a better interest rate too. You could start with the bank that you do your current banking. The thing you would want to do is charge a little every month and pay it off in full. This builds your credit. Do not overcharge. A good rule of thumb is only charge what you can afford to pay off. I hope this helps.

| Shannon gave great advice. One other thing that I can offer is to check around where you shop a lot to see what credit cards they take. I have a discover that I use then my husband has a visa and we share a mastercard. I've noticed that some places don't take discover. The different companies require different things from the stores or deals with them differently, like how when they get their money, so some stores won't use certain cards. Like I said I've found some stores around here that don't take discover but at the same time Sam's club only takes discover. Plus, the main reason I use discover is you can pay it at Sears. So if you forget to mail it in or just want to go ahead and pay it off you can stop by any Sears and pay it. Other than that I would just go with the one that offers the lowest interest rate like Shannon said, there's really no difference in the cards. Since you are wanting to use it at the emergency vet's just check and see if they accept all credit cards. Also if anything happens check to see if you do keep a credit card on file if then you can make payments. I know that's what our vet does. You have to have one on file in case you don't make the payments but once its on file they will work out a payment plan.

I think all credit cards are pretty much the same. . . just make sure you pay the bill in full when you get your statement so as not to incurr any finance charges. I have a NWA visa only because I collect miles. It does require an annual fee but because I use it a lot, to me it is worth it as I have enjoyed the benefits of flying for free many, many times. | |

| I have an American Express card, but I only use it in emergencies. I used it last year when Hurricane Katrina hit here, but I paid back the bill that I had. |

| Oh Yeah, I forgot one thing... Our vet has a credit card available through Care Credit. It is a card that carries no interest for the first year. It came in handy when Lola needed surgery a few months back. It is almost payed off now and I believe our limit was $3500. We needed to use all of that unfortunately. Anyway Good luck to you.

| Thanks for all the tips!!! I will have to call around and see what credit cards they take. I can't get pet insurance because it does not cover all accidents and does not cover the whole amount which needs to be paid in full at the time I bring them in and also while I have two young ones, my cocker is considered a senior and her insurance would be really expensive, I have checked all the pet insurance companies and they are pretty much the same when it comes to this. I do have a credit at my one vet that is an hour away, I can charge in emergencies, but they are not open all hours, so if something were to go wrong after hours or on a sunday I could not use them. I was thinking of visa, they are pretty well accepted in alot of places, has anyone tried them??? Thanks for all the suggestions, I really appreciate it, you guys are the best!!

| I have a Visa card. I've never been to a store that doesn't accept it and I've never had any problems with it. Please make sure that you only use it for emergencies. There are way too many people who are stressed out because they ran up a credit card bill. Make sure, if you do use it, that the amount can be paid in full the next month. That way you avoid finance charges and any other fees. I cannot stress enough that you need to be careful with a credit card!!

| Former banker here... I was a bank manager for 8 years, and in pulling credit reports, I can tell you that credit cards get more people in credit trouble than any other thing on earth. Be very cautious with whatever card you get. But USE it. Use it every month if you can, for small purchases that you can pay back as soon as you get the bill, and never charge more than 35% of the total credit line if you can help it. This type of usage makes your credit score go up up up! Make sure you find the best card for YOU. You are on the right track: low interest, no annual fee, and probably Visa is the best logo to have. There are many many MANY vendors out there, so shop around. Start with your local bank, and see what they have to offer. Watch out for hidden charges that must be disclosed in the paperwork they give you, and read everything before using the card. Also, NEVER charge more than your credit limit, and NEVER EVER go 30 days late on a payment. Ask your friends what kind of cards they have, what their interest rates are, and how they like the service. People who work really hard to get the best cards are proud of the outcome and very willing to talk about it. Good luck!

| I got the American Express Blue Card. No annual fee and you don't have to pay off the balance each month like most amex cards. My credit limit is the highest I've ever had on a credit card. Oh and 0% on balance transfers for the life of the balance! Woohoo!!! I'd stay away from Chase Bank. I can't stand them. They really screw you over. You can do a search on here because once I posted about my dilemmas with them. Good luck!
