thanks.... some of the reviews scared me off of this model...saying the pic quality was not that great...it has a bit smaller of a optical zoom but good mega pixels...... is this camera small enough to fit in your jean pocket? Hubby & family do racing at the track so I need to get something that will fit in my pocket for such occasions...

I have the Sony Cybershot with 5.1 megapixels and 3X optical zoom and also have movie camera features. I think it takes great pictures in any light and has several neat features. You do have to hold pretty still while taking the photo or it can be blurry. This camera is definitely jean pocket size, though you would want some kind of sleeve for it so you wouldn't accidentally break the viewing lens. I really like the photo quality.

I had the sony cybershot the 5 megapixel one, but it took too long to take pictures of the kiddies and the quality wasn't as great.

I now have the Canon SD500 and am VERY pleased with it's quick response and it has a nice little feature to take pictures of pets. I agree with Kristy.. Canon all the way

I had a Sony Cybershot -- I'm thinking it was the 5.1, I enjoyed doing little videos on it. Anyway it became lost, so I got an Olympus 5 MP FE-110 Digital Camera , and you can also do video. I love it!!!

Lol, I'd suggest both the Sony Cybershot and Olympus 5MP FE-110, or higher. Both are excellent cameras - right now I'm really loving the Olympus, but it has more megapixals than the Cybershot that a bought a couple years ago.

It's very small. I'll see if I can't get the specs. I carry it in my pocket. The only pocket I can't get it into is my tight jeans, lol, but my loose fit the camera slides in fine.

lol... thanks!!! the only flaw I really don't like on this camera is the low optical zoom.... how far can it take pics?

It can take up 400x digital zoom, so basically you can take pictures from far away, and zoom them further on the computer, or even on the camera afterwards. It's kinda weird, but I know I'm getting a better picture than what I'm seeing on the tiny screen. When I move it to computer; I see details that I couldn't see. Which is great (I think they kept the optical zoom down because they tried to make the camera really small, which means the screen on the back isn't very big. (Mostly it's all screen back there, but on a very small camera -- well that's still a small screen.)

It also has this setting for close-ups, and major closeups. Like if you are doing a tiny flower, and want to see every detail. . . I love this feature, and truly I set it for most of my portrait shots since it really catches the details.

I wanted a higher opitcal zoom, but what was very important was the digital zoom (since that is the picture you will end up with.) My mother has a digital camera with a higher opitical zoom than digital. Well you think you are taking these great detailed pictures, then move it to the computer and they are further away than you thought and grainy. So I said "Nope, either the optical and digital match, or the digital needs to be higher than the optical zoom."

I hope this makes sense; I'm afraid I'm writing this quickly before I have to go pick my kids up.

We have the Minolta Dimage Xt, it is quite small and takes wonderful digital pictures but the draw back for me with it is that the controls are small and hard to turn, would I have bought it knowing this, NO. However, that is not to say anyone else would have a problem with it, maybe it is just Ole Uncle Arthur kicking in and not letting my fingers work like they use to. Dunno, but it does take GREAT pictures once I learned to keep my index finger up out of the way when I used it. If I were you, I'd get neither - and search for a Canon

If you decide on one of those, choose the Sony. However, I am a professional photographer (all digital) and I vouch for the quality of Canon cameras (both lenses and camera make/body, etc.) - and for the same amount that you'd pay for any other brand of camera, you're getting more quality for your money with Canon, trust me.

thanks guys.. for everyone's input! I have researched alot on customer reviews and everyone just about really likes the Sony DSC-S600 digital camera.... the only downside is that you can ONLY use Memory Sticks Pro Duo.... bummer..... that pretty much is a waste for the memory card I have now.....
