| ![]() Ann, I don't know if this will happen to you and I'm hoping NOT, but please be prepared.... When our car was found it was towed away and we had to pay a tow fee of $300 which goes up daily the longer our car was there. We had no choice but to pay what we felt was ransom and feeling like we were victimized twice! There were damages to the car so we had to get it towed from there to our mechanic. There is a proposal to change the law of having to pay a tow fee if a car was stolen.

| ![]() You know what they say, a good car thief is quieter and faster than a cat so any white noise or even low TV on in the house would have more than covered any minimal sounds they made as they carried out their silent task. I sure hope the cops get your car and the thieves ASAP and put them away for as long as the law allows plus 5!

If this happens, check your insurance policy. If it makes no mention of your liability for towing fees, your insurance should cover it. Exclusion to explicitly state cover or lack thereof in policy wording = it's covered. The policy will supersede local law as it has to be written with this and insurance law in mind. | |

| ![]() I know we paid but it would have been nice if the fee was lowered for victims of theft.

| ![]() I get that it really adds insult to injury but, really, somebody has to go get and bring in, house the stolen car. And if the tow driver works just as hard towing a stolen car, why should he and his family get paid less for the same amount of time, risk and work load if the car is a stolen one? He could wreck his rig or throw a lumbar disc just as easily working to tow a stolen car as he could a car broken down in traffic. I'm surprised your insurance coverage didn't pick that fee up. Did you turn the receipted bill in to them?

| ![]() My BIL would who happens to be a tow truck driver would agree with you. According to the proposal, towing companies contracted with the city made an annual profit of 30 million so I'm thinking they can afford to give theft victims a break and not treat them like someone who parked their car illegally. Our car was stolen years ago and I doubt dh kept the receipt.

| ![]() Checking on you Ann, haven't had you off my mind since you let us know. I have been hoping it might have been a teenager that needed a car for the night and left it somewhere.

![]() I keep thinking of more and more stuff I had in the car too. A $129 check that I had sitting on the seat waiting to get to the bank, a bar cart I *just* bought that I hadn't unloaded yet. And on and on. About $500 worth of stuff. All that said, it's still just "stuff" - and all of my fluff butts are safe and sound and that makes me feel very lucky indeed!

| ![]() A friend of ours left his car running in the drive to go back into the house to get his cell and somebody stole it.. He came out just in time to see the tail lights turn the corner. Immediately called the police to report it. the police found it, about 24hrs later. Somebody reported it had just been crashed into a building about 7 miles away. He was questioned by the police and by insurance investigators for his insurance and the building that was damaged also. He said why would I be so stupid as to report it stolen then drive it somewhere to crash it, I would have been arrested for stealing my own car? Ann, you may never remember everything you had in your car. Our house was broken into 3yrs ago Oct. they kicked in the front door. They took my husbands iPad and computer and my jewelry box. To this day I still think, oh I'll wear that necklace or ring and it hits me, auugggg that was in my jewelry box and I forgot to list it on the report. BUT, at least my prized belongings, Bubba and Sissy were not hurt or taken. They had been gated in the kitchen so they didn't have unmonitored access to the rugs. I hope you get some answers soon.

I often wonder what ever happen to those people’s horses… I know what happen to their truck ![]() But yes that suck… I keep so much random stuff in my truck I would be lost L I really think this week is like the twilight zone!!!!
