We get ppl stopping by from time to time asking for them or for some leftover materials (plywood, melamine, solid wood, etc) we don't use. We just give them for free.

Good idea though on calling some places up...I really would like to see how it is to work w/ this rougher pallet type wood.

Great idea for a new thread Ann! I love the champagne sign. My best friend has a whit kitchen and it is hard to keep clean and sometimes looks a little cold. I do think you can warm them up tho with paint and counters and accessories. I have cherry cabinets with granite counters that open to a great room. I did a total house reconstruction 15 years ago and luckily I still love it. There are a few things I'd do differently because when I did my kitchen I really wasn't a cook. But alas, a redo is not in the budget.

That's similar to our house too...where the kitchen opens to the great room - I love the openness to it all. Feel free to post any home/decor piccies if you feel like sharing your home!

Lets talk wood floors, shall we?

Some of you guys seen the pictures of the house I bought not too long ago. It has very nice wood floors. As nice as it is, it seems bit slippery. Is it possible to lay on a coat of anti-slip sealer without have to buff/scruff the floors? I don't think sanding is necessary since I'm not trying to refinish.

After searching google for the answer, I can't seem to find the simple yes/no to my question. But from what I've read, I think I just have to clean the floor really well and apply the sealer.

I live with an elderly mother who's already taken couple falls/slips so this is VERY important and would like to get done before we move in. I'd really appreciate any advice/feedback!

Okay...I have a question. I've had 2 friends recently who paid a lot of money to get their grout cleaned. Is this really a necessary thing nowadays? We've never had our grout specially cleaned except for normal cleaning. Why is grout cleaning now a thing and do I need to do it? Also, what about "grout sealing"....? Confused.

Grout?... Like... the stuff between the tiles in bathroom/kitchen floors? Why would you pay someone to do it? Was super duper dirty?

As for grout sealing... That keeps the grout easier to maintain clean so I can understand wanting to do it.

If you're dying to clean grout clean easily and not "in the mood" to pay someone. Here's a great DIY. I tried it myself and works REALLY well!

Oooo, cool use of the drill there - very cool! Going to have make one of brush tools for sure.

Yeah, I'm not totally sure when/why the people I know felt they needed their grout cleaned and sealed...that's why I'm kind of confused over it...I'm not sure if/when I need to do it at all really.

Call some of your local landscape companies that does installs, not just a yard guy with a lawn mower. All of our sod comes on pallets, most are in good shape, I wish I lived near you as I have about 40 on the yard, I would LOVE to give them away! But I bet some of the local landscape companies in your area could give you all you could want.

I think the easiest fix would be to have mom wear those slipper socks with the tread on the bottoms! We get those at the hospital and they really work for not slipping across the slippery floors.

That would be the cheapest and easiest... I was actually thinking about renting a buffing machine from HomeDepot and doing it myself. It LOOKS easy enough but... Yeah...

Yes! That little stuffed yorkie is the cutest! All the nurses were always commenting on how many animals, cards, flowers and balloons I had. Thank you!
