My son's bank caught his as they were trying to drain his bank account and notified him immediately. Some people are just pathetic!!

As far as banks go, I really like Chase, they have always been more than fair with me and can't complain now. Since they will refund anything a customer will lose because of this when many banks will not, they can't have people pulling out just any amount they want. I agree though, it is harder at this time of year.

I used to have a Chase acct and one day it was compromised. My friend worked at one of the branches and she had me come in and sign a affidavit and the money was put back in the next business day, new card in the mail, asap. Few days later I had the same issue with my BofA acct. I went in the branch and could not get anyone to help me. They pointed me to a phone to call it in. They would not do anything. I called again from home and got transferred a million times, each time telling me I transferred to the wrong place and they need to transfer me again, or that I called the wrong number it wasn't the number for CA, even though I called the number listed on the back of the card etc etc.

Needless to say after a long time on the phone I finally got my $20 back, and I closed that account.

I would not wait to change cards if you shopped at Target. Those people can hold your acct info for a while and use it later and you will be SOL.

I go to target a couple of times each week. The dates that this breach occurred also coincided with me doing a bunch of Christmas and birthday shopping. Needless to say, I'll be watching my card transactions like a hawk and will be calling B of A tomorrow to tell them I "accidentally" washed my debit card...

Just so it's said, breeches occur everyday with every store. No one is safe as long as hackers exist.

If you do that they will more than likely just issue a replacement card with the same numbers on it which will do no good if they have your debit card # already. My hubby lost his and didn't want to cancel and the bank said that if he didn't cancel that they would not cover fraudulent charges made on his lost card. Just something to think about.

I pay may balance off each month and get very lucrative rewards back. If I used a debit card I loose my money the day I make the purchase, with no cash back incentives. I know this thread was about being pissed at Target and I don't blame you, but I can't help but wonder why so many people use a Debit Card instead of a Credit Card.

A friend who got his debit card used at some toys r us store. The charge was for few hundred dollars. Long story short, the bank wouldn't give him his money back. I think the bank told him the charge had to be a certain amount (couple/few thousand dollars) in order for them to "investigate" and give him the money back.

I had a charge of $0.01 on one of my CC that I did not authorize. I mean... who charges $0.01?! I called the CC and right away, they closed the account and refunded that one cent. No question asked.

That is the way thieves test your card to see if it's a working card.

Didn't think of that... Fortunately, my dad drilled in me to check my CC statements often so I caught it the day after the charge was made. I check ALL my bank/CC accounts several times a week.

Is it Bank of America??? I hate that bank! They charge a fee for EVERYTHING!

I have a Target near me, we checked our bank accounts, debit card & credit card statements to see if we used a card there during that time frame, I am so happy that we did not.

Also, you may get paid back by Target for any fraudulent charges, but that could take MONTHS to get, in the meantime, your bills are coming and you can't pay them, everything snowballs! AARRGG!

I had to come back to this post as I saw another thing that didn't sound right besides the fee your back wants to charge. Just so you know Target has no idea who's cards have been compromised, it could be any/all of the 40 million people that shopped. Target does not notify the banks, it is your responsibility to monitor your account.
