My butt is sore because I did a bunch of squats yesterday too. |
Okay seriously I need to get my s**t together! Since Rosie passed away I just have been eating everything I want and not exercising. I have a gym membership I am paying for every month but I'm not even using it! Ugh. I'm just so unmotivated and lazy. Gotta get back on the bandwagon. |

Oh no... i didn't know your baby passed away... So sorry! :( hugs. |
Bump I'm trying to get back to eating healthier and lose some weight, but it's hard and more expensive eating drastically different than your family. They're also convinced weight loss is mostly exercise. At least Lola will eat veggies with me :). I get told off if I don't cut her a red pepper when I make a salad. |
Uni is the same way! She stares me down when I make our daily smoothies. The smoothies really fill me up. Usually I have a smallish protein filled breakfast and then a smoothie. Banana Apple Carrot Celery Orange Tomato Ginger Flax Meal Greek Yogurt plain Frozen Strawberries and Blueberries and anything else that's fresh and on sale at the market Add in some water in the Vitamix and top with ice. |
I also thought at first it was more expensive to eat healthy but if you only buy what is in season and eat everything you buy, it's not pricey. Frozen or processed foods are actually expensive. I'm really into using up everything I have. For example, bf likes the market rotisserie chicken. After he's done with it, I save all the bones in the freezer and when I have enough I make chicken stock. Also I save all veggie peels in the freezer for the stock. Then I use the stock to make soups. For pork shoulder or steaks, I cut off and save the fat in the freezer. When I have enough I render it down in the slow cooker to make tallow. I use that for cooking oil. Don't have to buy cooking oil anymore. Cuts with the fat untrimmed are usually cheaper IF you use the fat and not throw it away. Trimmed cuts are always more costly. When your favorite fish is on sale, stock up and freeze it. Make sure you tell the fish monger you are freezing it, so they give it to you still frozen from the back, not the defrosted stuff in the front. Don't worry about buying frozen fish. 99% of all fish is from frozen. Unless you buy it alive from the tank or fish it yourself or know someone who does, they are all frozen. Strawberries are in season now. I buy a crap load and clean and halve them and put them in the freezer. Anytime something is in season and cheap and does well in the freezer I buy a lot. If you have a hispanic or asian market, get your produce there. SO much cheaper! |
Eating healthy isn't expensive, but it is more expensive if 2 people are eating one way and 1 person is eating another. It's also hard to cook for one person, especially when pain and fatigue are big problems. I know how to eat healthier and lose weight, I just don't always have the energy to resist bad foods. Baked goods and good bread are my weakness and my family goes WAY overboard on them. Like at christmas my grandmom insisted on 3 types of cookies, custard, pumpkin pie, and cheesecake. Totally ridiculous. I've managed to lose 50lbs and keep it off for years, I need to lose another 40, but medical stuff and life drama keeps throwing me off. I typically eat eggs or baked oatmeal made in large batches and frozen, cottage cheese and fruit, greek yogurt, salads, rice, frozen veggies, chicken, and tuna. I can't cook fish because they complain about the smell and I don't really like beef or pork. Tonight my family had homemade mac and cheese, I had chicken, broccoli, and a little mac and cheese. I go to a produce store for my fruits and veggies, they're much cheaper $2 for 6-8 cucumbers vs $1 for 1 at the grocery store. Frozen veggies aren't always expensive, I can get 12oz of good quality broccoli florets in a steamer bag for $1 on sale, I'd pay at least that for a head of broccoli. My family is totally different than me with food. My mom can drink nothing but coke and eat a custard doughnut and be ok until dinner. I'd be starving and mean on that diet. They've very into unhealthy carbs and I do better with more protein and fat. My grandmom saved me the heavy syrup from a can of pineapple yesterday, because it's "healthy", she doesn't believe me that that's pure sugar. |
Oh, I thought you wanted tips on eating healthy bc you said you wanted to get back to it. But I know what you mean about self control. My favorite thing in the world is bread and butter. Doesn't even have to be a good bread! I have it easier though bc it's just me and bf and we typically eat fairly healthy, though he does want to get junk food from time to time, and then ends up not eating it. So guess who eats it so it doesn't go bad?! ME. I would prefer to just not have it in the house but he insists. At least most of it is frozen fries so that doesn't go bad, but hot dogs, bacon, etc do. Or he has to have four different kinds of cheeses and we can't finish it before it gets moldy so that's a waste of money too. And that heavy syrup healthy? EEK! OMG yeah it's just sugar. Is your family those people that eat whatever and are thin or are they overweight and don't really care about health, or normal? I know it's hard with a medical condition. My sister has epilepsy and takes various meds for seizures and depression. Depending on the meds she will go up or down in weight in big fluctuations. She's like 5'3" and has gone from 100lbs to 180lbs. She doesn't eat much and when she gains it's impossible to get the weight off until she changes meds. |
What good timing to have this bumped! I recently found out my cholesterol is high and I have been ruining the foodie thread on accident  okay, I'm a subscriber. |
Oh my I unsubscribed from that thread long ago! |

My biggest mental hurdle was getting past wasting food, eating something I don't truly want or need is just as wasteful as throwing it out. I used to eat things because they were going bad, now I'm like F it, I didn't buy it, it's not my fault. My family used to be thin, it caught up to them around 45. My mom is 5'5 and about 170, my grandmom is shorter and heavier. My mom eats like a 5 year old, basically she'll eat tomato, cheese, and carbs (pizza, spaghetti, ziti, etc) occasionally she'll eat other stuff but acts very put out. She'll eat veggies with lots of cheese or a fast food salad, to her that's healthier. She also only drinks coke. My grandmom isn't as bad, but she drinks coke and eats mostly junk too. My problems started because of drinking nothing but soda, steroids, being sick, not being allowed outside much, and being fed mostly junky carbs. I've always had blood sugar problems and the old recommendation was sugar, no mention of following it with protein or fat. I recently learned protein can spike your blood sugar too, that explains some of my recent crashes. I'll be ok and then suddenly get dizzy, weak, irritated, and nauseous. I don't fear hunger, but I fear that feeling. That's awful about your sister, has she tried keto? It's supposed to help seizures. I'm not on meds that effect my weight, but I've been on birth control pills since I was 13 (medical), idk if they've effecting my weight. It's more the mental tax of dealing with being young and having serious medical problems, then finally getting used to it and something else pops up. Plus being tired and in pain makes it hard to want to do anything. I currently need to make appointments with 5 doctors. |

I'm not sure about the meds my sister is taking but she was diagnosed with epilepsy probably more than a decade ago. She had a seizure while driving and totaled her car. She didn't remember a thing. She tells me her seizures are under control but then I saw a story on the news about a guy who also has epilepsy and thought he had his seizures under control and he had one while he was skydiving. Luckily his sky diving instructor saved his life. When I was on birth control I gained weight. I was on them for about 10 years. After I went off them I lost weight, but now I gained more weight back and then some. I think it's aging and my metabolism slowing down. But I still don't want to exercise. LOL I swim in the summer and that's it. But damn, 5 doctors? That's gotta be to straining, mentally and physically. :( |
Seizures are awful, they\'re so unpredictable. My poodle had pretty bad epilepsy so I have some idea of what it\'s like, she was lucky because she able to tell it was coming a few minutes before it happened. I was so young when I started BC, already overweight, and going through puberty so I have no idea if I gained weight. They\'re probably going to put me on a stronger pill soon, so we\'ll see what happens. They wanted me to try the depo shot, I refused. Swimming is the only exercise I enjoy too, I miss having a pool. Yeah it\'s exhausting, not knowing what\'s going on with your body is awful. My health is the reason why my focus is more on eating healthier than losing weight, but I\'ve lost 4lbs this month so yay. |
That\'s great! I\'ve been eating healthier for a year and I haven\'t lost anything, but I haven\'t gained, which is great bc I was putting on a few each year. |
