Saw a dog I've never seen before today!

I am trying to think of something that is good with Yorkies, easily trained, and okay indoors or out.

Many guard breeds could be good, but the same criteria would apply as to the BRT;s.

What about a pair of border collies? BUt sheesh they might have too much prey drive for the Yorkies; not sure about that.

I can tell you a Tibetan Mastiff would scare not only coyotes away but wolves and even cougars. Not sure where you live, but I just heard from my camping friends, cougars have now been sighted in near North Ontario.

I love Black Russian Terriers.. I think they are awesome..

I love the BRT as well, their sheer size alone would scare off anything...my house and yard aren't nearly big enough though, maybe I should move...

Tibetans I would like that but hard to find. Long lived.BRT haven't found much local either. Border Collies to much energy. I'm getting a Yorkie I'm certain. The bigger dog needs to be a perfect match .Boxers are on my list just haven't meet them yet. Good wtih kids dunno on the smarts?? No kennel. Inside lap dog? With have a big puppy crate till the pups trained but indoors.

MIKE Brt's are a rare breed go to www.brtca.org to find breeders. I' am not sure but you will likely need to travel to pick up your pup.


I am not judging truly not judging, but it seems like you are luke warm on training in a kind of disciplined kind of way.

Boxers are very smart, but take at least 3-4 yrs to settle down. That is what I know about them.

They are very high energy dogs. And need to get that energy out on walks, play, retrieve etc.

Sorry don't know about their prey drive, or other things, such as standing down a coyote with their smell alone.

I like Boxers but don't know to much on there smarts? I just read they are average. I grew up with American Bulldogs and Hound Dogs. I can pretty much train any dog Basics. Hound Dogs are very stubborn. I would get a American Bulldog but where I live Im not allowed to have any type of "Bulldog" for insurance purposes. That applies to Rottweilers and Akitas also. Those would be my top 3 also. So unless I move which isn't happening yet. I'm getting another breed. I'm not worried about Coyote's I made my place pretty secure. And if they did get onto my property they would simply be done.I can handle a Boxer energy. Just a Border Collie is really high energy. I see them at the dog park they will go for 2,3,10 hrs. I see Boxers also not so much and the ones there are pretty dumb. But I contribute that to the Owner. I train Moki with strict discipline. Like if he were a big dog. I come in the house he won't bark he will sit and wait till I give him the okay to come to me. He wont eat till I say its okay. Won't go out the door till I say Okay.Sounds cruel but thats how you keep your dogs from getting separation anxiety. A Yokie will run you all over and they will become spoiled yappers. But I also give him cuddle time also JME

What about an English Mastiff? Not sure of their average life span though.

ANother rare breed here the Irish Water Dog/Spaniel. There are two near where I work, they have amazing temperaments. I would call them an medium/large dog. Very well trained dogs.

Actually in Moscow Russia, they are found a lot in the apartments! They for a big dog, don't take up a lot of space.

And they don't need a big backyard either. But two good paced walks a day, training always, play time or work. Very intelligent breed. Very loyal, and they just wanna be with their owners all the time!

But they need a firm loving owner, and truly are not for the first time working dog owner.....

That why I looked at Irish Wolfhound. But took those off my list. Big dog that only needs moderate exercise. I think I need to really think. Mastiff are getting on the big side. Boxer size is whatI'm thinking ...but untill I figure that out I'm trying to get a Yorki also. But a Female.

Irish Wolfhounds NEED to be trained vigilantly at a very young age & you need to know what your doing with them as they are Sight Hunters & WILL chase anything that runs OR moves, squirrels , cats, small dogs & so on. I LOVE mine BUT he's NEVER allowed alone with my small dogs or cats as he has a constant eye on them & it does not look like a nice eye.

True. But I met some breeder who have small dogs with theres. They told me they don't bother "there" dogs or "there" kids. There meaning the ones the Hound was brought up with. But I do have a plan to keep whatever dog I get separate from each other when not supervised. I had Dog battle before with my previous Yorkie and Pom but a big and little will have there own place
