Saw a dog I've never seen before today! I was walking and this guy was coming towards with a dog that I never seen before, a breed I mean. I had to stop him! This dog was so unique looking, awesome ears! It was a Berger de Picard. I'm in love! :D. Anyone know anything about this breed? Anyone have one? Love to see pics! |
I looked them up. Here's a site that tells more about them. Berger Picard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia They look like an Irish Wolf hound, but smaller. I like how they look too. I see why you fell in love with that 1. |
I have never heard of that breed bf.... my other favorite breed is the Brussels Griffon they are cute too! |
I've never met a dog I didn't love:D |
Yeah I know me too! Funny thing about this dog, I told my hubby about her last night. Told him that despite his resistance to a 3rd dog, I think if I could get one of these dogs, I wouldn't even ask him, i'd just do it. He was like OK. I raved about how beautiful this dog was and how in love I was in a second. Then I showed him pics online and he was SO not impressed like I was! LMAO!!!! |

Sooooo.... there are like 7 breeders in the US that are AKC approved. I checked out each of their sites, and only 1 or 2 are updated for 2013, the rest have no updates since 2010 or 2011. :( A puppy is around $2000 and I'd have to have it shipped, which would be another $500+ I think. Its not going to happen for a LONG time, if EVER! But .... its my job now to research them, get to know what to expect from the breed and get ready because someday when the time is right, I believe I'll have an opportunity to own one! |

YES, love these dogs. I discovered them last year. The only thing that turned me off was the price and the lack of US breeders. :( I LOVE them though. They used them in 'Because of Winn Dixie' movie. I tend to find beauty in muttly looking breeds. Border Terriers are 90% sure going to be my next dog. Just love everything about them. |

This dog although very cute judging by their temperament description I'd want to know a whole lot more about. I have never seen one in person or at a show either. I will keep my eyes open though. |
I have heard of these dogs, one of the dogs listed in the course I am taking. Haven't seen one in person though, they are cute! |

But yes Irish Wolfhounds would keep coyotes away too. I love them too, but 7-8 yrs is a heartache I just can't go to. TEll me what else, are you looking to keep the bigger dog(s) outside in kennel type arrangement? I am trying to think of something that is good with Yorkies, easily trained, and okay indoors or out. Many guard breeds could be good, but the same criteria would apply as to the BRT;s. What about a pair of border collies? BUt sheesh they might have too much prey drive for the Yorkies; not sure about that. I can tell you a Tibetan Mastiff would scare not only coyotes away but wolves and even cougars. Not sure where you live, but I just heard from my camping friends, cougars have now been sighted in near North Ontario.:eek: |
