And there's the whole "I" vs "ME" in a sentence. My son's teacher told him is is always "I". She argued with me. (or should I say she argued with I?)

That is the one that makes me yell at the TV every time. It seems to be more and more often that it is used wrong. ie: "Property Brothers" on HGTV-Jonathan says "meet Drew and I at your house" every single time!! Are you going to meet I at your house or are you going to meet me? It is on the news, on sitcoms, on commercials...does no one understand that is incorrect??? Another example: He brought the cake to Sally and I. Did he bring I a cake or me? That is how I was taught to determine which one to use. Remove the other pronoun and repeat the sentance. Does it still make sense? Say it the other way and see if it sounds better. That is your answer. (sorry-it is REALLY a pet peeve of mine )

I am surprised at how often people use then instead of than. I see it on business websites, in product instruction manuals, and so many places that you would think someone should be proof reading.

I t doesn't bother me when someone makes a mistake, not all of us have had the chance to get a good education. However, when a TV announcer and many do say 'Putin he is causing problems in, instead of Putin is, than that is really unforgivable.

Also one thing I do hate is when someone from the U.S. corrects someone for spelling colour this way. Most of Europe uses a 'u' with words ending in 'or'

I read a lot, so I have a tendency to spell things in the European way...orthopaedic, colour, behaviour, analogue, moustache...

I think most anyone today can readily get an education if they want it, with home, online, CD/DVD and special TV network courses flourishing for those that can't attend daytime or evening classes in the flesh. I notice the "him/her and I" incorrect usage as objective pronouns so frequently today. It's as if the word "me" has been deemed uncouth or something except, gulp, as a subjective: "him/her and me seen this guy coming down the street"(sic). Apparently many don't always properly conjugate a verb either.

I can't remember for the life of me how to spell definitely. I have no idea why, but I've tried for years and get it wrong every time. lol I always spell it like this >>> definatly <<< and have spell check fix it. No matter what I try, I just cannot drill the correct spelling of that word into my head.

Think you could try to remember that it has the word "finite" right in the middle of it? Like dilemma - I try to remember that Di and Emma are in a dilemma together and it helps me remember how to spell the word. I think of the two s's in supersede as being like the two s's in supersonic for some reason and that helps me always spell it right.

It's like a mental block I have for that word. Kind of like some people can't say the R's well or some people can't wiggle their ears. I can't spell definitely. lol

But supercede is a word.

If someone gets in front of you in line, he supercedes you.

And as an afterthought. I hate text speak.
