Instead of I would HAVE or I should HAVE

People write I would OF or I should OF

I have to sit on my hands and also often remind myself that many people just have a hard time with grammar.

As for medical lingo... my MIL came to me one day wanting some Ibupropane as she felt 'off' and thought her electric lights were out of balance.

Haha! Yeah, but some things sound right when spoken, just goes crazy when you try to write it down....

I'm trying to figure out 'a whole nother '.... is 'whole' inserted into 'another' for emphasis? Like 'be f**kin' have'?

My old boss told of a patient's mother in the Parkland ER where he was interning as a young doctor who told him her 20-something son he was treating had Smilin' Mighty Jesus as a teenager when giving the young guy's Past Medical History. When he said he didn't know what that was, she described symptoms of Meningitis and she was trying to say the long term - Spinal Meningitis. Since then I've learned that more than a few people in the South used call to Meningitis Smilin' Mighty Jesus! You can even find that term on the Internet.

Medical mispronunciations and spellings are some of the funniest. Lots of our patients listed staff infections and arthuritis. So many women talked about having a positive mammiogram.

I try to keep quiet about grammar because some people just really don't get it.

I have a soft spot for affect/effect, who/whom, and a few others because I have a hard time with them.:rolleyes:

I could care less. Makes no sense.

With internet chat in general, I don't like all caps, run-on sentences (even if you don't know where the period goes, try), or one long paragraph.

On another note, I have eye issues. Two of the fastest ways for you to get me to avoid reading your post would be to use really weird font that is hard to follow or colors that do not contrast well.

Conjunctions and interchangable spoken words: their, there, they're in bothers me.

I've been called "grammar police" on FB because my only comment on a post is to correct the grammaar of the post itself.
I dropped a young family member from my fb page because of her poor grammar.

I'm a hotbed of grammatical errors and misspelling and I am an librarian and ESL teacher. I have loads of reference books and love my spell check. My conclusion is that English is one of the trickiest languages in the world.(You can send this back to me with any corrections needed)
