| Wisdom Teeth I am getting my wisdom teeth taken out on the 27th of December and am scared. I have never had surgery before and they are knocking me out for it too. Has anyone gotten theres out and if so what should i expect like for pain and how long does it usually take to recover.

| I had all 4 of mine cut out and it isn't bad! I was swollen for a few days and could only eat soup until about day 3 then I decided that all I wanted was macaroni salad and to this day can't stand the sight of it You will get pain meds but all I took was Tylenol and it wasn't bad! You will be ok, just uncomfortable for a few days |

| I have never gone through this type of surgery so I can't offer any help...But I want to wish you well through it all and a speedy recovery.

| Oh, do you really want to ask.. I'm sure you're going to get some horror stories. I got mine taken out under local anesthesia and yes, it's bad... It's not a fun experience. But once they're out, you'll never have to experience it again Good Luck, I hope you'll recover quickly.

| Don't be scared, I had all 4 of mine pulled at the same time...Get laughing gas, and I promise you won't feel a thing! Then make sure you get a great narcotic prescription afterwords. It should heal up very quickly.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I AGREE !! get those babies out ! Wisdom teeth are SO worthless - they don't make us smarter - so why are they called Wisdom ? Most need to be pulled - how wise is THAT ? They just HURT ALOT when they are growing in wrong .... and you'll feel so much better after - the surgery isn't bad....you get good drugs.... PLUS lots of sympathy - Enjoy it ! |

| not bad. I had all 4 of mine done at the same time. I was completely knocked out. They even had to shave some bone and pre-warned me that they might have to break my jaw--they didn't thank god! Anyway I was in pain(not unbareable but pretty uncomfortable) the first day then it eased up, overall I was uncomfortable for about 3 days. Make sure they give you good painkiller drugs and you can sleep off the first day then use as needed after that. I ate ice cream and jello, yogurt and soup and oatmeal. Oh yeah you can't drink from a straw either. I was on liquids for a week then I could start slow, nothing crunchy and was almost 100% after 2 weeks. Believe me I am a total wuss when it comes to pain. The worst thing is after you eat you have to use this funny shaped syringe to rinse out that area and keep the stiches clean. Not really a big deal, you get to lose 5-10 lbs. and get some good painkillers!

I made them give me the teeth (in my deluded 18yr old head I wanted to make earrings out of them so I would never forget the grief they caused me! ). Fortunately, when the drugs wore off I couldn't find them only to discover years later that my wisened mother had thrown them out!!

| Do NOT drink through a straw!! I did & I got dry socket (that's what they call it!) & had to have all 4 holes packed w/ numbing stuff every day for 2 wks! It was so painful! But as long as you don't drink through a straw you should be fine! Good luck!

| Can I just brag for a sec? I went to the dentist on Thursday and he said "wow Kristy! I have never seen 4 perfect wisdom teeth in my life". Apparently they all came in perfectly straight and I don't have to get them pulled. I guess I'm super duper wise then? Staci - My best friend got hers out and she said it "sucked" for a few days, but it was better and easier to deal with than the pain she had from having them in. Don't worry about it! You'll be fine. Just think about Cosmo & Astro getting their manliness removed - they were fine after a couple days and you will be, too

| I too had 4 perfect wisdom teeth at one time...lol They were fine for many yrs. When i was 32, I had them all four cut out. The problem was that they were so far back and one was rather close to the tooth beside it, so eventually i ended up with an absessed wisdom tooth. I decided to have them all taken out so that i wouldnt have to worry in the future of this happening again. I have regular cleanings and am very picky about my teeth so I knew that my preventative care obviously didnt stop the one wisdom tooth from absessing. The problem with mine was that when you get a little older, the roots tend to fuse to the bone, making it harder to just pull them all out easily like you can when you are younger. The older you are, the worse they will fuse to the bone, so cutting out was my only option. I'm so glad I did it. No more food gets stuck way back there...and you will be fine, you'll get laughing gas like Mone't said and I was also given a drug called "versed" sp? and it makes you where you do not remember anything. And i didn't! Good luck to you! |

| I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth. I made them put me to sleep I can't stand pain or noise in my mouth. I didn't have any problems at all. I didn't have hardly any bleeding or swelling and I didn't take any pain pills. I tried to eat doritoes the next night, but that was a bad idea, but other than that no pain or anything. I hope yours go as well.
