| Those football programs at the big, successful colleges at Penn State and others can fund all of the rest of the athletic programs, including Title IX. Others help build research labs and more classrooms, fund excellent programs. For example, I think the University of Texas football budget a couple years ago was about $20-23 mill, but they took in over $93 mill so you can imagine there was extra money out there for many good uses if the people in the football program there and other big football powerhouses did not and will not misuse their power so egregiously and horribly as to cover-up crimes against children. Of course, many of the smaller colleges athletic programs run a deficit.

| To give the other side my DH said all the sanctions are doing is hurting people that didnt have anything to do with it and the commuity. The people that knew the abuse was going on are long gone so they should be sued

| I agree but there is no way the NCAA can punish the people that are now gone with the exception of not allowing them to be employed at other Universities. This was an institutional cover-up at Penn State and they must suffer for it. Unfortunately, the current players and staff will have to suffer for those that did horrible things before them. The NCAA is allowing the current players to transfer and play next year for the team they transfer to. Normally if a student athlete transfers they have to sit out a year.

And most of the men who caused this will just get sued and their names sullied as others have to deal with their sins against children in serving out the ban and program reductions, loss of revenue, loss of business and loss of pride in their school community. Probably only Sandusky and perhaps those other 2 will serve any time - and the other 2 may get probation and fines only, I've heard some say. Pretty sad what happened at such a venerable old college and it shakes me to know if it happened there, it's happening elsewhere.

| I heard some talking legal heads on TV say that some prosecutions can't be done because statutes of limitation have run out on things that could have been prosecuted if reported or brought to light sooner. May have been another reason they all kept quiet so long!

| I agree. The sanctions need to be stiff, but most of them just punish the current and past athletes, who had nothing to do with what happened

However, as a person that works with abused and neglected children, I totally agree with the stiff sanctions. Unfortunately these young men will be affected for the rest of their lives. So very sad....

| Totally agree! Any wife would know something like that! She's as guilty as those guys at Penn State that looked the other way in my mind. Don't tell me your husband is staying down in the basement after bedtime when little boys are staying the night and a wife wouldn't at least go see what was taking so long for hubby to come to bed himself!!!

| I hear what you are saying about folks who did nothing wrong paying for the sins of others. Future athletes and their parents need to have some assurances that the school they are choosing has adequate integrity. Penn didn't, but it puts others on notice. This is not about football, this is about abusing children, and adults who lacked integrity - what ever was the most important to them allowed this to happen.
