I have been thinking about getting a tattoo (this would be my first one) of a heart with a blue and pink rose (my middle name is rose) that has two ribbons running through the heart and would add my two children's names in the ribbons....both my kids have tattoos in memory of their grandparents and my son has one of our family crest....I just am wondering what would be the best spot that wouldn't hurt so much....I am 59, and have bruise/bleed easily, so this might be an issue..

For the longest time I thought tattoos were really trashy and the people who had them was losers. As I started getting older I met people here and there that had tattoos and they was friendly, had families and jobs,it was then that I realized I was being unfair and judged people just cause they had tattoos.I agree that there are some really ugly and meaningless tattoos on people.

I had my first tattoo done when I was 28,I wanted to be cool and come to find out I didn't become cool...(lol)It's nothing big or ugly, just barbwire around my bicep.

Heide and I are both 39,we recently both had tattoos put on our backs. My tattoo is quite large,it takes up the majority of my back.It has sentimental value to me.It took about 12 hours to do.I went in every couple of weeks for 2-3 hr sessions.Heide's tattoo is a lot smaller and took at the most 2 hours.Heide's tattoo is also a sentimental piece.

Doesn't Pam Anderson have one like that? I heard the inside of the arm hurts like a MoFo. Like down where us women have that bat wing look going on.

My shoulder blade hurt SO much. The middle near the spine, not so much, and the back of the arm was a piece of cake after the blades. I think the more fat and meat, the less it hurts. The more bony, the more it hurts. I think the foot is the worst. But come on, no where does it NOT hurt!

May I add, the few days before I got my first tat (the big one I have on across my upper back) I watched this documentary on Nat Geo or something about this tribe in Africa that worships the Crocodile (or maybe Alligator) and their boy's becoming men rite of passage included getting hundreds of cuts on their bodies and faces to scar up like the scales of a croc (or gator, whichever it was). That's all I could think of while my very heavy handed tattoo artist was working on me. Being cut up by sharp pieces of rock.

In fact, he was so heavy handed that the needle stopped vibrating at times.

Pamela Anderson does have a barbwire tattoo. From what I recall the inside arm and tricep area was very tender for me.

I agree with you saying more fat equals less pain and the bony areas would hurt more.I did say that I heard the upper arm and shoulder blade was the locations that had the least amount of pain.

Just like you,I experinced lots of pain in the shoulder blades and a lot less pain in the middle of my back.Another area for my back that hurt was the lat area.

Getting a tattoo does hurt! Everybody has a different threshhold for pain.

Ouch!!! As soon as I read that the needle stopped vibrating, and u feeling like u was being cut up by pieces of rock, made me think back. For me the outline was very painful.I will describe it as somebody taking a knife and dragging it all the way down your back.I did 2 and 3 hour sessions.

My father inlaw and brother inlaw just passed away from cancer...within about 2 months of each other...they meant more to me than anyone in my family!!! I got this in memory of them...

Angie - that purple ribbon and wings on your foot is beautiful! What an amazing tribute!

I have two tattoos, and I don't regret them per se, however, I do sort of regret the design on one of them.

I have a butterfly on my belly, about 3 inches to the left of my belly button. I got it when I was 19 and going through a time of fierce independence at college after growing up in a very strict household. To me it symbolizes an amazing time in my life when I really began discovering my true self.

I have a heart with the Italian flag colors and the phrase "La vita bella" on my back (not a tramp stamp). I got it after a terrible situation in my life that led to the end of my first marriage. Once I was able to enjoy my life again, I realized that I truly did have a beautiful life. Also, my best friend had designed the tattoo for me. The reasons I have regrets about this one are two-fold. I had to have the Italian colors re-inked not more than a year after the original tat was done. The colors just didn't seem to be "holding" and the ink looks faded. The second reason is because people keep telling me the wording is wrong...that it actually says "The life beautiful" instead of "The beautiful life". I had done research on this (including asking actual Italian people), and they had told me either way was acceptable. Even if it is phrased incorrectly, it still means the same thing to me.

Whew, sorry, that got long-winded. I love the idea of the paw prints, and I'm sure I will be doing something along those lines for my next ink. The two places where I was inked (my belly and my back), were not particularly painful at all. I was actually surprised it didn't hurt more. In my line of work I have to make sure none of my tats are visible. I have no idea where my next one will go.

I love the idea ! Watch out though, don't get the same tattoo, make the tattoo artist you choose do it a little bit different, cause propably lots of people have the same tattoo since it pops up first on google.

Both my tattoos are just one of a kind, they are not made from anything on the internet, except my red rose portrait is made after a photograph.

I just got my second tattoo yesterday , and I love it !
Don't be afraid of getting a tattoo cause you are a girl, gender doesn't matter !
This is just a piece of art that is only your choice, no one else!
Just wanted to say that cause SO many people judge us.

The tattoo I got yesterday I can not explain how it is, but it has 4 paws in it, ''spirals'' , and a rose...

A genius called Boff Konkerz made it, it is hand poked, no tattoo machine used when tattooing.
Here it is, you have to be on facebook to see it : Facebook

My other rose is just a normal portrait.. Phil Young from Connecticut made it 9'th of June 2011.
http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...91814567_n.jpg

The paws in my upper tattoo are a sign for my passion for dogs Dogs are a big part of my life.
I say go girl ! But don't get it too quickly, have your design perfect before, you can also have the tattoo artist to sketch for you
Watch out for picking the right tattoo artist, many are really bad and don't clean their tools well, so watch out for a good one !

I don't have any tattoos and doubt I ever will. However, the memorial tattoos I think are the best! They mean something so special and I don't think you could ever regret them. I think it's a beautiful tattoo.

I have a large tattoo behind my left shoulder. I like the location, but the caveat is that I almost never see it, as I don't look over my left shoulder. Oftentimes, I forget I have a tattoo (and I've had it for over 20 years). Also, it's practically a private tattoo, as it's covered with my clothing. Furthermore, because it's covered with my clothing, it's protected from the sun, and the colors are remarkably vivid (not faded), inspite of it's age.

I really, really like my tattoo, even though I forget it's there. I'm still glad I got it.

This is why I wanted Kaji's paw prints on my hip. I wanted to be able to see it and enjoy it. I still forget it's there, even though it's relatively new.

Gosh shows how much I know about tattoos, I didn't know what a tramp stamp was, lol.

I've been wanting to get a tattoo on my lower back. I didn't know it was frowned upon so much.
I don't want to get it to be trendy. I have a birth mark on my lower back and I think a tattoo would make it look less noticeable. I've always hated this part of my body so I thought if I could get a tasteful tattoo to cover it up some maybe I wouldn't hate it so much.
