Thinking of getting a tattoo
 

Okay I have been thinking about getting a tattoo for a few years now.

Pawprint- Furbabies I have lost
Angle wings- Loved ones I have lost
Halo above- Angels watching over them and looking out for me

Can't get the stupid thing to copy.

I know a really good tattoo artist but they will put there own spin on it of course.

Not sure were to put it either. It would need to go someplace easily covered but not too painful. I hate needles. The artist said if I can't decide on the spot I am not ready for the tattoo yet.

Since Zoey passed I am not thing about it day and night. I don't want to make a rush decision though.

Those that have memorial type tattoos ever regret them?

I am a "senior citizen", and and NOT a fan of tats, especially on women. It is a generation thing, I know....I can easily accept tats on a man, but I just can not wrap my mind around a lady getting tats....it "cheapens" a lady, to me..... and references such as "tramp stamps" leads me to believe it still is not something totally accepted by society. That being said, I LOVE that tat! On a man, upper arm, or over his heart on his chest. On a woman, gosh I just do not know....small, quarter size, some place you know it is there, but not visable to everyone else.....maybe around the iliac crest area? (I am sorry about narrow minded attitude about tats on a woman...it is just me!)

I am not a tattoo fan myself. I have thought about this for 10 years- The same idea and everything. I would never get a "tramp stamp".

I have known the artist for several years so they said they will not be responsible if I change my mind later. I must be 100% sure. He thinks it would look great on the wrist, ankle, foot, or shoulder- Places that don't stretch much over time and other than the wrist very easily hidden and kept personal. He also won't do it on me for 6 months- He says I am too emotional right now which is true.

I have thought about this design idea for about 10 years so 6 months won't kill me.

It would be my first tattoo so he doesn't want me to rush myself. If I want him to do it I must wait. Great things come to those that would right?

I would never get a significant other's name on my body. IMO that is showing they own you and I will not be owned by another person. Parents, sibling, kids names I get but not a significant others. Everyone I know who did this was broken up from that person within a year.


Someone PM'ed me to suggest commissioning a piece of jewelry. I like the idea and will have to look into it. My job as a nurse do to infection control risks only allows simple wedding bands (not married or engaged) and post earrings. Necklaces are a choking risk is a patient grabs on it. So I would have to remove the piece before going to work. An anklet would work I guess. Due to my job I also can't have visible tattoos. Tattoos must be covered.

It sounds like you have a good tattoo artist there, I would either do ankle area is I ever got the nerve up to get a tattoo....came close one day but something else came up. If I ever got one it would be in honor of my kids- human and animal.....never the husbands name....that's doomsday !!! lol

I would think there would not be a reason to regret any sort of memorial tattoo. Back of your neck and shoulder would be a good area and easily able to cover. The downside in those areas are you would not be able to see them unless you are looking in a mirror. I like the wrist,foot and ankle idea's,but the tattoo would have to be much smaller.

I got a tattoo earlier this year as a late Christmas present to myself. I too had been thinking about it for a few years and just finally decided to do it. I have Kaji's two front paw prints "stamped" on left hip. I love it so much!!! I'm terrified of needles, and to be honest, I will never, ever get another tattoo. It's just not me, and this one is really out of character for me. I love the design, and placement. The placement is so wonderful. Right where I can see it, and enjoy it. Yet, it is easily out of sight for work and what not.

I love tattoos! Well, I love GOOD tattoos. I think bad tats give tats overall a bad name. Most are tacky.

But I think this design would be great on a shoulder blade or wrist. I think I would do away with the shading, it looks dated. Also I think the paw should be smaller or the wings larger.

My first tat I got a large on on my upper back. Since I can't see it often, everytime I see it, it makes me smile. Plus I can't get tired of it bc I don't see it often.

I do have a man's name tattooed on me, but it's a fictional character, not a SO. That's just part of my sense of humor.

I will get more in the future, just haven't had time to do them. I already know what I want.

When you can't stop thinking about getting it done, that is the time to do it. Just a word to the wise, the getting inked part is the least painful part of it. The healing is the worst!

It will be able to fit in 2.5-3 inch circle. Not huge but able to show detail and not turn into a blob with age.

I know the foot, wrist, and ankle will hurt more than on the shoulder. But no pain no gain right?

I think the wrist is out-Too hard cover. I would have to wear a bandaid over it when at work.

I would need to lose a few pounds for me to feel comfortable with a tat on the hip. I'm sure it is beautiful though. I have seen some in that location before.

I love looking at tats. Me getting 1 is highly out of character for me.

It is going to be like that 1 but not exactly. He will not copy another artists work. The wings will be bigger, the paw a little smaller, and a little simpler- Much less shading. The halo will look like it is glowing slighly. The whole thing will fit into a 2.5- 3 inch circle. I will not be a black and gray either. This is the base it will look much better than that.

And you tell me this now?!?!? Haha! Just kidding. :) I still would have done it. The worst part wasn't the itchiness, it was Kaji digging at my side to get me up for breakfast. OUCH!!!!

Here I am in a conversation about tats!!! I know NOTHING about them or the people that do them...but this person that you are thinking about having do yours, sounds like he is realistic and thinking about some issues that maybe other people have concerns with, after the fact. He sounds like he is a "responsible tatoo person"!!!!! I love the design....my first idea also was piece of jewelry, but with your job, yes, that is a no-no, for all the right reasons....infection control issues and crazy patient issues. I have young cousins that have dainty little things on their ankles....THAT has GOT to hurt!!....and one has some little thing on her wrist. Good luck with this, where ever you decide to put it....it is a very touching design, which I love...If that is YOUR own creation, I would suggest you give some SERIOUS thought in having charms or other kinds of jewelry fashioned in that image. I think there would be a very successful market for that piece, and it could be a source of a little additional income!

I'm 67 yr's old got my first tattoo 60. I love the American flag so much.I got a star on my ankle with a flag design on it. I belong to a Pt Cruiser club an on my car I have pinstripe star's on my car to match my star on my ankle.I don't regret it at all. I love it. If I was skinny I would have a tramp stamp with an American flag. Just because you have a tattoo dose not make you a bad person.I don't think you will regret it. I know I don't. Don't worry about what other people think if you like it get it!!!

No, it is not just you. I work for a big corporation and they definitely frown on tattoos on men and women.

I remember hiring one lady and she showed up at work on first day, in a skirt, with a HUGE round tat on her calf. I really didn't care - but my straight and narrow boss happened to be there that day.

Oh well I'm going to say to each his own. But tats are not something I find attractive - not even on movie stars!

Get one that won't show if you don't want it to!
