I'm just wondering how you made out with drying the Nikes in the dryer -- every time I have gotten my sneaks wet they are ruined.

Well I have girls, but they are girls that do like to get dirty. Of course, our life is on and around the farm so good boots got wet and dirty all the time. I suppose, I am a mother who feels a little wet or dirt never hurt. Had those been kids at my house, I may have asked your son how his mother would feel about him being out in the rain with his good school clothes on and offered him a change. Depending on his answer, I probably wouldn't have given it another moment's thought. On one hand you say your son doesn't have many friends, on the other when he does have a chance to make some, you criticize innocent bonding behavior. Really, be glad a parent was there even if it was only to supervise. That's more than a lot of kids have these days. I understand the issue with the shoes, but you gotta choose your battles wisely.

I didn't make a big deal over it. Thats just it. It is over I was just pissed that this was the first time my son goes over to hang out and he's out playing in the rain for 2-1/2 hours is all. I could buy him 10 pairs of Nikes if I wanted to but that is not the point. His clothes aren't ruined and he will live and I will live., I just thought it wasn't right and it is something I wouldn't do is all.

I don't really need advice on being a good parent. This is why I didn't say anything. He just came in and took a shower. I asked him if he had a good time and that was it. I was just pissed and thought I would vent here. Boy was I wrong!!

I have had my older son "wrap my car around a tree" Thats not a fun call to get. Your talking apples and oranges. I was just mearly venting here thats all. I never expected to be picking up my kid soaking wet is all.
When you go through teenage years with your kids then you can tell me to relax. I'm living it now and I am very "relaxed"
Thank goodness my "brain cells" are connected because I hate to think what would happen to my children if they weren't. I've gotten 1 through college and 1 almost there, 1 almost through high school. believe me I pick my battles very carefully. I just thought this was irresponsible to send him home soaking wet. That's all

Are you more mad at the mom or the fact your brand new car got wet and your son's new sneakers were ruined? They're just things. I'm sure you son will remember this as a fun experience, and maybe will be closer with these friends now.

Playdate term is a little outdated too. When I read the title I thought a yorkie playdate in the rain. Now if that were the case I'd be pissed. But then again, if Uni went on a playdate, I'd be there

Sorry for the "outdated term" It is not the fact that he had on good clothes or the freakin sneakers..it's the fact that it was the first time he was going there and there are other things to do inside!!!

Sorry you feel that way. You were judging the other parent and that parent did exactly what a lot of other parents, including myself, would have done by allowing the kids to have a good time. Just don't see what was worth getting so pissed about. No one is judging you, just trying to console you so you wouldn't be so angry about it. Vent away.

I just played out in the rain with my kids yesterday. In fact, over the last 3 weeks we have played in the rain 4 times.

The kids LOVE it~ it feels refreshing to me~ and seeing the pure joy and squeals of laughter on their faces makes the fact that I have to strip them naked and throw all of their clothes in the wash and clean up drippy, wet tile all the way to the bathroom get more clothes out and re~dress 2 preschoolers totally worth it to me.

Video games have never elicited that kind of response in any child that I have ever witnessed. I think your son was having a blast with his new friend. I hope he is invited back over to play.


BTW....a Mother sitting in the garage watching TEENAGERS "play" is almost unheard of these days. I think you ought to ENCOURAGE this friendship instead of discourage!

BTW....a Mother sitting in the garage watching TEENAGERS "play" is almost unheard of these days. I think you ought to ENCOURAGE this friendship instead of discourage!

Of course he loved it!! I have gone out there and played with my 4 kids also in the rain. It's alot of fun. Been there, done that!! He is going to be invited back to play. And I will let him. The boys he was playing with are nice kids. I didn't say anything to her and I didn't make a big deal over it to him. She wasn't sitting in the garage. She must have just come out for something because she waved and went back in through the side garage door.

with all due respect you really need to take a chill pill! it is your sons responsibility to tell said parent that he can't get wet/dirty if he's not going home! Hold your son accountable why treat this parent this way? Or maybe talk with this parent...I cannot imagine in this day and age sending my child somewhere without at the very least talking to the other parent!!

You are not getting it!! I didn't "treat" any parent any way. I didn't say anything. I just came here to vent because I thought it was wrong. I don't have special rules for my kids to play. I never expected in a million years that they would be out there playing basketball in the rain is all.
We were going home, but remember my kid was in school all day, what if I had to take another kid to the dr or something and thats why I had to pick him up at 5?? He wouldn't know that!!
I wasn't going to call the mother and tell her a list of rules for things he can and cannot do. My kids have been to many other kids houses over the years and I have had a multitude of kids here. My house is usually the hang out house. I'm just sayin that I would never ever allow someone elses kid to come here and send them home soaking wet.
