| Nj urgent! Please take the time to call or FB Gov. Chris Christie and ask him to veto bill 2923 / Assembly Bill 4036. If this bill passes it will allow Animal Control to kill any stray they deem old, sickly, or aggressive without a seven day hold. The dog will be killed immedialty, giving no time for a family to locate their pet. Imagine, your old senile dog wondering off, and AC finds the dog and deems him old and immediatly puts him down. Imagine, your young dog accidently gets loose from you and is now scared and growls at an animal control officer and is then deemed aggressive and is immediatly put down or someone's old chronically ill dog wonders off and is deemed sick and instead of being treated is put down. A family given no time to even call or locate their animal. Please tell the Governor that the seven day hold needs to stay in place. This has to be done prior to August 25. If it is passed, it could be your dog one day effected. FB is the easiest way, like his page, go to discussions and ask him to please Veto this bill / Bill 2923. Assembly Bill 4036 Thank you. Elaine |

| done! "Please veto this bill. Animal Control can not be allowed to randomly put a dog down without allow the owners to claim it. If my dog was elderly and got lost they should not have the right to dispose of my animal. There are many elderly dogs who wander away and get lost just like elderly voters but there is not reason to put them to sleep." Gov. Christie-609-777-2500 I emailed-I was difficult because you have to pick a catagory-the only catagory it seem to fit under was game and wildlife.

| I do not know how this bill came to be. I have no background on who sponsored or backed it. I only know that it needs to be stopped. Come on I know we have more YT ers from NJ. If this bill gets passed it can very well be your dog one day being Euthanized. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Done!! Dear Governor Christie, On behalf of New Jersey’s companion animals, I am asking you to veto Senate Bill 2923, Assembly Bill 4036. By changing the state’s mandatory seven-day hold period to allow for arbitrary decisions about euthanasia based on “age, health or behavior”, many more animals are likely to be killed in New Jersey shelters. The hold period is a necessary regulation that allows for owners to reclaim their lost pets. If you change the language, older animals, or those with treatable medical conditions may be euthanized by shelters before their families even realize they’ve gotten loose. This law could have disastrous consequences for New Jersey’s pets and owners alike. Please veto it immediately. Animal-lovers across the country are watching New Jersey; show them you care about protecting the state’s pets, and leave the mandatory hold period as it now stands. thank you very much Gov. Christie, I know you will do the right thing and veto this law.. yours, Carmen Stone Last edited by carmen in nj; 08-21-2011 at 06:00 PM. |

| I googled it and see a Steven Sweeney (D) sponsored the bill. Didn't read through it but cosponsors will usually be listed at the bottom. Did they slip this bill by during a legislative session w/out any publicity - how is it just coming up now? Remember that they can always repeal any bill any time they want if you legislature has the votes to do it.

| Bill Vetoed. Thanks To All Who Responded. This just in from the Captain of the SPCA. See Below. To All : After the last week of communicating with Governor's Office and Senator's Office trying to get confirmation that Senate Bill S2923 would be amended I went on the radio this morning, 101.5 and spoke about this proposed bill. Within three minutes Senator Sweeny (sponsor of bill) called in to say that the bill will be vetoed and amended to remove the "no hold" language. CONFIRMED !! Capt |
