Long is good! I have something to tell my mom. She is hard headed and will not use anything that costs more than $1, she refuses to use anything with heat, and she won't even brush her hair. I'll look into the products you mentioned.

Most of the "cheaper" products I find you don't get the best results. Yes, that is why it is cheaper for a reason

Aveda is expensive. You might find Sexy hair a little more budget friendly. There are sooooooooo many options out there. These are the two lines that work the best for my hair, and I like the results I get when I use these on my clients. And... I have used alot of product... LOL!!!!!

Good luck!

I saw big sexy hair at Costco, that alone might convince her to look into that brand.

Curly hair by nature is dry. Curly hair LOVES moisture.. but you have to create a fine balance between moisture and too much moisture.. otherwise it will weigh it down and become lifeless..

Also... Curly hair.. LOVES product.. Yes.. it does.. No, you don't need crunchy hair gel and gobs of hair spray but.. Like I say to many of my clients you say to me...

" I love the way you do my hair but I am never able to re-create what you do.."

Well... what products do you use..

" Not much if I use any.."

Well lets see today, I have used.. ( then I list all the products)

And then I reply.. No.. I couldn't do your hair with out product.. It's like trying to cook something without a recipe

There are some AMAZING products out there for curly Hair..

I personally Love Aveda..

There curly line is my absolute FAV! It's very lightweight but moisturizing

The BE Curly Curl Enhancer is Fabulous. It is like a lotion.. love this stuff.

Aveda - Official Site - Shop By Solution - Hair - Curl Enhancement

I also love the Shampoo and Conditioner as well..

Big Sexy is also one of my FAVORITES! There curly line is excellent!

Sexy Hair

I love the curl creme and the liquid gel!

and yes... I have used all of this on my hair.. I have curly hair

And.. diffusers are WONDERFUL FOR CURLY HAIR! Try a low setting high heat and you will get great body and great curl!

I was also going to suggest a dry shampoo for oily bangs. You may also want to switch up shampoos and conditioners. I personally have a moisture shampoo/conditioner, a volume shampoo/conditioner for my hair in my shower..

I find switching between shampoos and conditioners gives my hair a good balance.. I find if I use a moisture shampo/con every single day my hair becomes too lifeless and I can't get it to do anything... so I switch depending on my style for the day.

Focus your conditioner on the ends.. that is where it is needed the most then work up to the scalp.

Hope this helps! Sorry it was sooooooo long
Now I have a question for you. I have an appt next week for a cut and perm. My hair is pin straight asian hair, however it is thin, not thick like most asian hair. I had it last permed in Jan, and it held for about a month. It still has a bit of curl if I scrunch while drying, but the reason for getting permed in the first place was to have volume at semi low maintenance.

This time I am going to ask for tighter curls and leave the solution in for longer. What products do you think I should use to help hold the curl, and not have the "wet" look that mousse leaves? The salon I go to does not push or sell products there.

the first pic was what I brought in last time. It came out very similar, but see how the curls are loose, they fell out in no time. the 2nd pic is what I want this time, tighter curls and shorter bangs, as I have a long bottom portion of my face and my eyes are up high like hers.

Mousse shouldn't leave a wet look, at least not a mousse made for curly hair. With mousse I used to overuse it big time! You really only need to fill your palm once or twice if that. I used to put about 5 handfuls in before I learned!
Also try the pantene curl spray in the pink pump bottle or the moroccan oil [not a ton, just like a pea size or two!] Does wonders!
There is also a line called bumble&bumble.... google it and see if any salons near you offer it! AMAZING.

I would try any of those that I mentioned. Some one also mentioned Bumble and Bumble that's a great line too! Mouse shouldn't leave your hair sticky..but letting it air dry I find my hair is definently more crunch then when I diffuse it. Diffusers and product are key to great curls

I guess that's my problem. My mousse is for volume (yeah right) it doesn't say for straight or curly hair. I do use only about 1 or 2 handfuls. But I don't use a diffuser (can't find it) and I don't dry my hair all the way bc I get bored. I use my hand as a diffuser and scrunch. I dry it about 80% of the way, roots are 100% dry. I let it air dry the rest and it gives a slight wet look and crunch. After it's all dry, I use my hands and break it up some.

So if I use a diffuser to dry my hair 100% of the way it will not be crunchy or have a wet look? The wet look reminds me of the cholas (no offense to anyone) in the 90s with full on wet look curly/wavy hair but their hair was dry. I am trying to avoid that look. Do they sell diffusers by themselves? so I don't have to buy a new dryer?

a lot of my friends sported that look, including the penciled in eyebrows.

Yep! I will not do my hair without a diffuser. The key to a diffuser is HIGH heat LOW setting. Blasting it with HIGH heat will only create a GIANT S.O.S pad..it does take some time but the results are well worth it.

Yes you can purchase a diffuser by itself, I have seen them at Sally's Beauty and I actually got one once at Walmart. Almost all Beauty Supplies sell them seperatly. Just be aware not all dryers will fit the universal.. I found this to be a problem but personally a diffuser is something I won't go without. It changes the look of curly hair completely if done correctly.

And, no, you won't look a chola

I am also a product junkie. Permed hair ESPECIALLY needs product. I actually perm mine on giant rods because I have fine, thin, straight as NAILS hair..

I also love Root Pump. The Big Sexy is my favorite.

Don't forget Hairspray.. I always spray before and after I diffuse.. Right now, I am using Big Sexy Hairspray, Big Sexy Root Pump, Sexy Curl Creme and occasionally I spray some random product in there, sometimes I use gel..

Also... I forgot to mention... DO NOT try to diffuse your hair super wet and don't add product to SUPER wet hair.. you WON"T like the results.. Adding product to super wet hair is a big mistake many make. Your hair shaft can only absorb so much.. If your hair cuticle is absorbing mostly water then you end up wasting alot of your product and your product can't do what it is meant to do

What I do is towel dry my hair really well, add my product, put my makeup on THEN diffuse. About 15 min.

FYI: But if you wait to long and let the product sit in your hair and its starts to make your hair Crunchy... then you have waited to long

It's a happy medium.. you will start to figure it out

I will try and post some pics tomarrow when I do my hair

Also if you want to get the chola look... Buy dippity due gel and white rain hairspray.. spray the heck out of it and glob a handful on your super wet hair... Tada... Finished look

Taycie, so your hair is naturally straight? I would live to see pics of how you do your hair.

Lol Omg to the dippity do!

I used to use the big sexy line when I could afford it. I will start to buy them again eventually.
