| I just got the Netflix for streaming on the Wii about three months ago now. My plan is still the $7.99 plan or whatever it is... it doesn't seem like a bad deal to me. I still go to RedBox or BlockBuster Express for NEW movies and some movies I just like to own so I'll find them on eBay or whatever... but for me, I don't have cable/directtv in my room so the Netflix is really handy when I'm not in the mood for my already owned-movies or don't feel like leaving the house to pick up a DVD. I've found some good "indy" type movies that I never would have watched had it not been for netflix.... so yeah I'm pretty happy with it. But wouldn't be paying any more than what I am now.

| Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | We have kept ours, but cut back. We used to get the Watch Instantly and 4 DVD's at a time. Now we get 1 DVD at a time and the Watch Instantly. For us, it's a good deal. We watch the Watch Instantly through the hubby's XBox all the time.

| Funny how this thread reappeared, I just got netflix today. I'm just getting the one month trial for free before school starts. It's $18/month for 1 dvd and online streaming. Definitely not keeping it. My bf was the one that had netflix, so I was able to get the one month trial. After school starts, I won't have much time to watch movies anyways When my bf had it last year, if I got lucky, 2 dvds/week, but usually 1 dvd/week...not worth it for me...

| They are going to go under if they keep it up. It was in the news that their stocks are plummeting. LOL

| It's not Netflix's fault. Just like we all hate how the Neilsen rating systems works (something like 1 Neilson household represents like 4500 households?) and how we can't all watch our favorite TV shows online the day after they come out and how movies theater tickets are like $15 now and how Kindle books cost way more than paperback books - it's the studios/publishers/etc. pulling the strings. They don't understand how people want to consume their content. It's the same thing that happened with Music. Netflix would have everything on streaming if they could. I'm sure they are quite ready for the DVD model to go away. I wonder if there isn't some element of "look, our customers all dropped DVDs, they ONLY want to stream" in this move, to give them more leverage to stream everything. Netflix has/had contracts with the studios that are coming up for renewal, and they will probably have to pay big $$ to renew them. That's why some stuff that used to be available for streaming is gone I know Redbox is $1 ($1.50 or $2 for Blu Ray), and we do use it, but my husband got a movie he wanted to watch on Blu Ray and a client called and he didn't watch it and three days later, it's like a $6 Redbox DVD. Plus, they only have new stuff. It's $3-5 to rent HD on iTunes. So in the end, Netflix is worth it to us, for now.

I know, it's crazy. My stepsister used to work at the movies so I used to get in for free but she doesn't work there anymore and I actually paid the other day and was like holy crap! Going to the movies is expensive. I hear you on the Redbox. There's been many nights where I simply forget I have it and then it ends up being a $7 rental fee. Once, my mom didn't return it for like 20 days, oops! Like I said, I like having the Netflix streaming since I don't have cable in my room, so it's convenient to have right through the Wii. So I won't be canceling it anytime soon, I don't think. Oh, and renting on iTunes... I do that sometimes, but like you said, sometimes it seems not even worth it. It'll be $2.99 or whatever to rent a movie and a lot of times, I can find the movie I wanted to watch on eBay to PURCHASE for like $1-$3 more. A lot of DVD's for sale on eBay int he $5 range. So half the time I end up just purchasing them. It seems silly to rent a movie only available for 24hrs when I could own it for $2 more or something. But it depends on the movie, too, and if it's "ownable" LOL. Some I don't care to own. I really miss being able to go up the road to a local video store and rent a DVD or a VHS. I also cannot get into reading books on a Kindle or electronically... I like having the physical book in my hands. I am so going to miss when all the book stores begin closing too (all the Borders just closed near us, so sad )
