I know. People don't realize what an EF-5 tornado can do. Three girls from my town perished. Outside of the huge mall, everything I loved to shop at is wiped out. There was a Cherry Berry yogurt store that was brand new and had only been open for nine days that was destroyed. The list is endless.

I doubt people realize that so many businesses were destroyed and many people do not have a job now.

Structural engineers are now looking at the building to determine if the present structure can be used or if they will need to rebuild in another location. I've always loved that hospital. The pictures of the hospital are so sad. It is amazing that anyone survived. Where did people go for treatment? I imagine that was the number one care facility in the region.

It was the main hospital, but there is also Freeman Hospital in Joplin. Patients were sent to Springfield, MO; Pittsburg, KS; Wichita, KS; and Kansas City. Those are just the hospitals I know. There may have been patients sent to other towns.

It's terrible. I heard on the news either this morning or yesterday morning that a dad & his teen son were driving when it hit. The son was pulled through the sunroof and was still missing! The dad had treatable injuries, thank God.

Then another clip was of a Grandma who grabbed her 4 month old Grandchild & jumped in a closet, holding the baby in one arm & the door with the other. Thank God they stayed there, when it was over only 2 walls basically holding up the closet were the only things still standing!

It's so heartbreaking. My BFF lives in southern Indiana in a 2nd floor apt. & had no power last night, tornado warnings for over 30 minutes & I was a wreck. She's ok but on the other side of her tiny town trees fell into houses & cars were thrown about, yet they're not saying what did that yet. It's just too much!

Law enforcement caught some people from Columbia, MO, stealing copper wire from some of these tornado-ravaged homes.

Just amazing how heartless some people can be to try to profit from all of the loss and destruction caused by the tornado. I'm just amazed that more lives were not lost from the storm. Too look at the pictures and see that there is nothing left to miles of homes and businesses it's amazing to me. I just cannot imagine being in the middle of such a huge storm.

I can't imagine it, either. They have been warning people about scammers. Tow truck drivers have been towing people's cars without their approval and then trying to charge huge amounts to get their cars back.

I found some photos on facebook of the Goodwill retail store, one picture of the JimBob's Steakhouse to the north of it, an eatery on the south of it, and some pics across the street. They were at the south end of the damage, so it wasn't as bad, but it's still terrible.

How sad that scammers are taking advantage of the people of Joplin. They really have to be heartless.

It is odd to see the things that are left untouched.

In the pictures above that Goodwill posted, the building south of Goodwill is an Arby's. The building across the street from Goodwill's parking lot that they photographed is an IHop. Just south of IHop is Chick-fil-A. The Home Depot is just north and around the corner on 20th. It was totally destroyed and people died there.

The confirmed death toll is now up to 139.
