| I need some camera advice! I am in the market for a new camera, and I think I'd like just a point-and-shoot so it's easy to keep with me in my purse or jacket pocket or whatever. My current (old) camera is a Kodak EasyShare circa 2005 (not sure which model) but it really doesn't take very good pictures compared to my boyfriend's camera (can't remember which kind he has, but it's definitely much newer!). But I do like how easy my camera was to operate, nothing too fancy! Dell has some really good deals on this week on cameras, so I have been thinking of maybe buying one soon! I've kind of narrowed it down to 3 cameras but am totally open to suggestions for others. I included two that are underwater capable... I'm not sure how often I'd use it but whenever we're able to get away on hot vacations in the winter, we love being in the ocean and obviously don't have any pictures of us in the water, so I thought it would be cool to be able to take a camera out with us. It seems that they aren't so great for regular pictures though, after reading some reviews. But I'm not a photographer so I'm not sure I'd see the difference. We're going to Europe this year too so I think I'd take a lot of pictures of buildings and landscapes. I'd like to keep my price point below $150 CAD, maybe up to 175 or 180 if it's a really really good deal. The ones I'm looking at so far are: Olympus Stylus Tough 3000 which is 12 MP with 3.6x zoom and is waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof, and is currently $90 off for a price of $149.99. I've read it has really bad battery life and won't even last a full day. I love all the colors it comes in! Kodak EasyShare M580 which is 14 MP with 8x zoom. It's $50 off for a price of $149.99. Reviews have said it's a good camera but it freezes a lot, and you have to take the battery out and put it back in for it to work again. This one is just regular, not waterproof or anything. The biggest downside for me is I hate the colors it comes in lol! Fujifilm FinePix XP10 is 12 MP, 5x zoom, waterproof, freezeproof, shockproof, dustproof. Cute colors! It's $30 off for a price of $149.99. Again, the battery life isn't great on this one and the reviews say the water photos are great but the regular photos are just mediocre, and if you want good photos to take a second camera. Does anyone have any of these cameras? What do you think of them? Any other options you can give me?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmmm...this is a tough one.... I *think* I'd choose the Kodak mainly bc of the 8xZoom and the familiarity of the interface w/ what you already have. Is the freezing thing more like an anomaly rather than something that is common? All models will have some that fail...so that's sort of inevitable. But if you get a fluke, you should be able to return it. But I dunno...if the waterproof thing is super important, then I'd scratch the Kodak right off. What about video? Many of these little cameras have great video, would you want that? I have DSLR...but I also have a little pocket camera, and it's great for certain things, and takes video too. It's a Panasonic Lumix, and has a Leica lens in it, which really helps with quality . It was maybe $120ish?

| Thanks for your reply! I'm not sure how important the water thing is the more I think about it. Most years (except this year) we can get away for a week in the winter to go play in the ocean somewhere warm. But that's one week. In the summer if we're out at the lake on the boat or whatever, I take my regular camera and I'm responsible enough not to drop it in the water! As for freeze-proof... it gets really cold up here but we've always been able to take our regular cameras out to unheated hockey rinks or out snowboarding or whatever and it's never an issue! Later yesterday I was just playing around looking at how much zoom I could get in some cameras (the one thing Scott wishes was better on his camera) and I came across a Fuji S1800 on sale for $189... it's a crossover type camera with 18x zoom. I think it might be neat for some of the castles and bridges and things we will be going to in Europe! I can also play around with manual settings and figure out how to take my own photographs. The other thing that's kind of a plus is that it can take just 4 AA batteries... I'm kind of forgetful and I always forget to charge things. We will buy rechargeable batteries, but if I forget to charge them I can always just buy some batteries when I'm out. It also seems small enough that I could fit it in my bag when I don't want to wear it around my neck. Decisions, decisions!!! I am really lost on this!

| Weird... I replied yesterday all about the S1800 and it shows up here but on the forum page it still just says 1 reply and it's from Wylie's mom... then after my last reply about buying the S1800 today it says there's only 2 replies Can anyone see my first reply?

Haha no I haven't ordered yet... I'm putting it off because it's a big purchase for myself and I'm worried about spending the money lol. It feels like an impulse purchase because I just found it a couple of days ago. But the sale ends today so I should probably just do it!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yup ! And everyone is so helpful/fun in there. Hey, does your new camera have video too? Many of the smaller ones have great video.

| Yes it does! It can do 720p video. I tested it the night I got it, I walked around the house and took video of Layla, and took video of Scott cooking, did some closeups of his face lol... It turned out well though! The one complaint I had read about the camera is that when you playback the video, you can hear the zoom going in and out, which you can, but I don't think it's a big deal!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yep, I think more than a few have the Rebel DSLR - check out the photography section. It's a great camera.
